I think I found my next car 2.0L Turbodiesel (so yes, you get the sexy hood scoop)6-speed manual! I shunned the RAV4 since there's no stick to be had, and I'm iffy about the regular Foresters since there's no stick with the upper models...145 hp, and 258 ft-lb torque. Not fast, but who cares. Fast = more gas money... and since I drive a base Vibe, obviously fast isn't a concern of mine anyway Hauls a LOT of stuff, and will easily clear 40-45+ US mpg with moderately conservative driving.It's available in Europe and Japan atm, but there's rumour it's coming over here for the 2010 model year. If they can offer me one that's loaded - ie, leather, xenons, sunroof, foglights & satnav - I'll be first in line with a deposit. I really hope they don't cheap it out and try to market it as a barebones economy model, cause that would suck.This car is a perfect replacement for my Vibe - it hauls more stuff and gets better fuel economy ... Now they just need to let us have it!
Interesting! I see why you like it and do hope we see more mpg like that in the next models in the US soon.I test drove a 2008 Forester a few months ago and although not diesel I did like the boxer engine, handling and interior roominess. I disliked the SUV look of it and wish it was more sporty outside and I hope they can make the seats/driver position more comfy.

yeah its being tested in Europe but it is suppose to come to the US. I know some tuners already looking forward to seeing what they can get from this engine.

Trucks! on Spike TV have modded out diesels before, Bullydog being the big name, and even added a propane mod and they were added around 300 if not more HP. Can't remember the torque, but I'm sure the HP is close. So if it comes to the US, I'm sure companies like Bullydog will start going crazy on it!!

I've raced a few turbo diesel trucks at the track and lost! and this was in my LGT that ran 12.8 in the 1320. the truck i lost to ran a low low 12, like 12.0 or 12.1, something crazy fast.
ok, so my understanding is that in europe, they're developing the diesel performance because overseas, diesel fuel is less expensive than regular gas.however, at least here in the midwest, that's not the case. i'm totally a fish out of water when it comes to diesel vs. regular gas... but it seems like until gas is so much more expensive than diesel, we won't see a market here.i'm sure i'll be corrected, and/or tarred and feathered if i'm wrong...

well, it's not that much more money than premium (which is what I have to use plus Torco additive = same as diesel) but getting twice the fuel economy. something for me to think about. maybe I keep my STI, pay it off and pick up a TD Forester or Legacy for a DD. or sell the STI for a TD Forester or Legacy and just beat on Mav's car (or the RS hopefully) LOL
Wonder if there are head gasket issues with the diesel's?If they offer it with an automatic, no head gasket issue, and available without a sunroof (a lot of owners have had issues with them), then it would be a great product.

HG issues were the bain of the late 90's subies(my 99 had issues)... at the cylinder pressures of a diesel, one would hope there isn't any HG issues... the cylinder pressures are like 5 times that of even a turbo car..

I got my subie and proceeded to replace BOTH rear WB's, on the second one I tightened the axle nut to tight and cooked THAT one.. lol... just waiting for snow to fall, to start a flurry (lol flurry) of work on it.. I gotta get the system put in, finally..
