vibe vs BMW, vibe wins

Post by dianebrat »

*sniff* my poor 2006 AWD was slammed into yesterday, and at the moment it's still drivable, and I'm ok, but this is a testament to how well built it is.I was sitting in traffic, and a BMW 5-series wasn't even noticing the road and slammed into me at about 30 MPH shoving me 10' into the Ford Explorer ahead of me.My rear bumper cover, bumper and frame are scrunched, the hatch is fine, and the front bumper cover and grill are damaged, it's big deal damage but drivable. The BMW and the driver that wasn't paying attention to the road was much worse off, the BMW was undrivable and had to be towed away, the driver while generally ok hit his head on the windshield, even with the airbag going off, and that tells me that he clearly wasn't wearing a seatbelt, and this just proves how important they are.I wish I had pictures of the BMW but I wasn't thinking of it at the time, I will add pictures of my poor vibe later this weekend so we can all raise our glasses in toast to her fantastic job of protecting me.Diane

I'm glad you are ok... the Vibe can be replaced, you can not.You know we like pics here, even if it is of a banged up Vibe (that kept you safe). If they total it, are you going to get another Vibe?

Glad to hear you're OK.I got rear ended a couple months ago as well. Just lucky no one was in front of me at the time.

thanks for the well wishes guys!I'm pretty sure I'm fine, and also sure the vibe will just get a new clip on the front and rear with a bit of frame repairs, after all, I'm still driving it. Funny thing is that I was just noticing I really needed the front and rear bumper panels buffed out because they were fading.I doubt they'll total out a car I'm still driving, but if I did get a new one, it'd be an '09 GT with stick over the AWD this time.I will be taking picture of how my trooper of a car held up, I'm just miffed I didn't take pictures of the BMW sitting dead in the road from it's encounter with the vibe.

That's exactly how my Firebird looked when an old lady slammed on the gas instead of the brake...the bumper was separated from the body and hanging-she bent my frame too ($2200+ damage!) but the body guy said they put it on the machine and it popped back out very easily and nicely. Trust me, that BMW (as did the old lady's Corolla, which was brand spanking, no-plates-yet new) has internal leakage. Hopefully your baby gets fixed very soon!

Sorry for your Vibe damage, glad you did not get hurt. Even though we on this board love them , Vibes are just a car and not importantant compared to the people inside them.We were also hit from the rear...it sounded really bad and knocked us forward several feet, to my amazement there was no visible damaged done to the rear of the Vibe. Even the steel bumper under the plastic was undamaged. I was expecting to see the whole back end of our car smashed in. The one thing that was upsetting was the driver had a young child in her minivan and was on a cell phone. Just wonder if she hadn't been on the phone she may not have placed her child and us at risk.Chalk up another great thing about the Vibe...it can take a hit.

woo hooo.. I got my baby back!and it looks better then before it was hit, the red on the nose and bumper is bright, shiny and looks just like the rest of the car, not all faded. Now I just have to wait the required time (and I don't know what that is BTW) and get it washed and waxed to help protect it.
