Possibly a bad axle?

Post by THE VIBERATOR »

My vibe has hit 70,000 miles recently and i am noticing a very loud creaking sound coming from the right front tire/axle area. Whenever i back out of my driveway and crank the wheel all the way to the left, i hear a rather loud creaking sound coming from my right front tire, i've checked the coil and the spring, they both seem fine, but i can't really tell if anything is rubbing or not. It also could be the tire itself rubbing against the damaged splashguard since the guard is about an inch closer to the tire than it should be (some idiot hit me). I also noticed that now, whenever i turn the wheel all the way to the left when not in reverse, i hear the same sound. It's starting to worry me. Any thoughts?

Fully remove the splash guard and see if you still hear those noises.

It sounds more like an upper strut mount. Also check the sway bar bushings and end links. A CV axle usually makes a clicking, clacking noise when turning sharply at slow speed.

I wouldn't rule out CV joints. I have heard them make all kinds of different sounds.

I'm thinking the impact from when the idiot hit me may have destroyed my CV joint. I'm not ruling anything else out, but that's what I'm leaning towards right now.
