09 GT road report

Post by shadow_dog »

Hello everyone,FWIW, I just want to give my opinion about my 09 GT 5sp auto, after a 1225 mile round road trip. I live just above Cincinnati, Ohio. Wife and I drove up I-75 to Sault St Marie, Mi. We went to several off the interstate towns and even down a dirt/gravel road to one destination. So it is safe to say not all driving was interstate. On the interstate, most of the speed was 75 or 80 mph. During one stretch I was driving 85. The weather was a mix of slightly overcast or moderate rain and heavy rain. Yes, I did slow down to 65 during the heavy rain. The 09 done much better on wet pavement than my 06 base. After being in the rain, I didn't have the fear of hydroplaneing in it like I did the 06. My wife and I both were very comfortable in the 09. IMO, it handles much better than my other Vibe. Anyone that might cry foul should shut up, because we did take the 06 on a road trip last year from Cincinnati thru Atlanta to Tybee Island , Ga. So I do have road trips to compare the 2 different cars. I would have NO PROBLEM at all taking my 09 on a road trip any day. Drives, rides and handles perfectly well IMO. On each road trip, the Vibes were loaded with an almost identical amount of luggage and other things. Now for the mileage--1225 miles, we used 35 gallons. Interstate and some off interstate. Do the math- 35 mpg. My 06 didn't do any better last year. I drather have the GT any day over the 06 base.

In defense of the newer Vibes. The 2.4 has a lot of potential, and has been a great engine in the Camry. The independant suspension is a big plus, compared to older gen Vibes,so handling would be way better vs stock. Not sure about the 1.8,what are the differences from previous years, engine wise??

I drather have the GT any day over the 06 base. After my test drive of the GT, I said the same things about the ride/power and handling improvements --- definately smooth and alot quieter. I love the GT styling and the new rims Good to hear you're happy with your purchase --- I'd be driving one now if my trade-in value was higher....

We expect this from him, actually surprised to see you back here, buddy, been a while, thought you were banned!

People are excited about their new cars, and the last thing they want to hear is some negative BS. Especially if it has no basis. That's all. I will comment no more on this.

i think everyone just needs to relax and not get so hostile with each other. enjoy the car, whichever year you own. this place don't seem like the happy place it was a couple months ago =/ but i don't care...i'm still glad this forum is here for all the vibe lovers out there...and until i get my 09 vibe gt, i can't really fully give a review on this car...but from my test drives it's an awsome little car

A couple of weeks ago someone posted a review and trashed the new Vibes. I think what you're reading are responses to that post.
