Practicality/ Need for "L" brackets on '09 Vibe

Post by alphafelix »

I have some sort of "L" bracket in front of my front tires and not sure what the practical use is for them. Curb stopper? (see attached)Does anyone know or has anyone removed them?

Can't really see it in the picture....I think its a toyota thing...my Camry & Corolla both have them...but I'm not quite sure what its purpose is.

Here is a better shot.I was wondering also what it was.... I always considered it as the weakest front mudflap ever.

At first I thought that too, but the mud flap would be behind the tire. I'm just hoping it isn't something the factory was suppose to remove before sending it out.

Those are to direct airflow and help with aerodynamics and fuel economy. They usually help direct air around the tires so the have less drag. they also help direct cooler air into the engine bay.

I don't ever remember seeing a Vibe that didn't have these. I had my theories about them too, just never really asked I guess.

None. Vibe is gone.

By taking them off, do you notice any difference in gas mileage? I am really considering removing mine as well.
