Very Loose Steering Column Trim (2009 Vibe 1.8L)

Post by alphafelix »

Does anyone else have a problem with the steering colum trim?Mine is so loose, it actually will pop over the ignition stem. According to my local dealer, they are passing it off as a poor design. Also, in pictures online, there appears to be an ignition stem collar. My 2009 does not have it and two dealers in my area checked all of their Vibe models and none have it.

Here is a picture of what my column looks like. Nothing like the previous picture I posted of what is advertised.

Sorry for the crappy pic, but here's the on on my '09 GT. No outside ring, but fit's snug. Maybe you got a gen x switch with gen y trim?

Just got back from the dealer. One service advisor said poor design and I was unfortunate to by a 2009. The second advisor indicated the Vibe is composed of cheap Toyota parts, and the service manager took a steering column trim out of a new car and replaced mine.Who says persistence doesn't correct things. Made a big difference in my vehicle (see attached pic).

On a side note, the service advisers may want to keep rethink their comments for a few reasons. The design is not poor nor is the plastic "cheap"; yet the one is correct it is a Toyota part. The Vibe has one of the better service records for maintenance from my understanding v.s. other models.

yeah, I brought my Vibe in to have it treated (inside and out) with the xzilon paint/fabric application. They gave me a Pontiac Torrent as a loaner for as long as it takes. My god, what a difference between the Toyota (NUMMI) build quality and the crappy Torrent. While the Torrent's engine and tranny seem wonderful, the interior quality and suspension is pathetic. I can't wait to get my Vibe back.

Wait a sec...no one can hold build quality against the 2nd gen vibe yet...that's the problem with buying a brand new model year: they haven't worked out the fit and finish kinks and bugs.Build quality will get better, but it's what you get with a brand new model. And no offence is meant here, but what the heck is xzilon paint/fabric treatment? Sounds like a load of junk, but I have no idea what it is supposed to do.

I complained to my dealership 3 times since my bumper to bumper warranty is due in 1 week. I take matter into my own hand by repairing it myself using foam tape and repair all the bend clips now it is tight like a drum.. now i even fix the looseness with wiper stalk.I FOAM TAPE!!!

Strange. I'll have to check my 2009, I thought my looked like the first stock pic you posted. I have no issues like that. Very distressing to hear how you were treated by the dealership.
