Hey, I got my CAI today and though it would an easy thing to install.Brother my back is hurting! The darn thing is still not installed. AGRRRI'm visual so I would appreciate to have some pics of how the tube /filter are set behind the bumper. The manual says I'm supposed to install the filter from underneath the car right to the lower part of the bumper (under the headlight) and the tube is supposed to be passed in the square hole behind the headlight. The problem is I'm not able to set the tube's brackets into the supplied "vibrator cushion".So if someone could help me, I would make my day!Thank you in advance.
I cut about 1 1/2" off the filter end of the tube and it makes getting the filter on and off a lot easier. Get the bracket attached before you connect to the throttle body and before you put the filter on the end of the intake tube. The big silicone connector on the throttle body is very flexible and does not have to end up dead straight to work properly.
Thank you.My problem is with the metal tube (the long one)Where is it supposed to pass? There's the battery in the way and the fuse box (I've followed the instruction to raise it but the raise is only 1 inch)

Hum... I got everything installed but the idle is rough (the rpm starts at 1500 then drops, drops... to a dead idle.I got the codes P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304.I've looked for loose tubes: air flow meter is connected to it's connector, no gaps between the air flow meter, gasket and cai.I've connected the vacuum line to the cai. There's a step I don't quite understand: remove the front vacuum switch valve, as it is not longer needed. I didn't remove it. I used the same vacuum line.I'll send pics if needed.Thank youI looked better to the air flow meter and it was dirty so I cleaned it up (not touching the 2 resistors) and now I don't have odb codes anymore. But still the idle is rough and motor stops sometimesI've tested the alternator: Started the car (rough idle) and disconnected the positive battery cable. The first time, the car stopped right away, the second time it continued for max 10 seconds and then stopped.I've tested the battery with car of:12.56 VThen started the car: idle low rev: 14.2So alternator is A1.I looked at the old OEM air filter and it was pretty dirty. Could it be a throttle body?I've tested the stock air box and seems to do the same (rough idle)Thank you again for all you help!
A lot of MAFs have thrown codes and given rough idles after the install of the CAIs. Some stupid questions, but necessary nonetheless: Did you install the MAF in the right direction (pointing toward the filter end of the tube? How about ensuring that it is clean? Did you connect the ventilation tubing (little rubber tube)?Try cleaning the MAF with brake cleaner and be uber careful in it's handling, ensuring upon reinstall that it faces the filter. It seems you are running into the same thing Brian did:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=27811

I did screw that up. I'm changing it in the post above so he doesn't skim through it, but thanks for catching the mistake.

About: Did you install the MAF in the right direction: Well, it only fits one way (I've tried to rotate it 180 deg and the screw holes doesn't allign) How about ensuring that it is clean:I've already cleaned it but did it again just in case (using electric cleaner)Did you connect the ventilation:if you're talking about the tube from TB to CAI: Yes it's connected and secured.I've cleaned the TB and still rough idle (I removed the hole body and cleaned it inside out)Still getting P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304There's a website (http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread?i ... id=2623008) which says "When I unplugged my mafs while it was idling @ 400-500 rpm, it corrected itself and started idling at 700-800 like its supposed to. I plugged it back in, then it started idling like sh*t again... "Well I've tried that and right away the motor stoped.I've attatched a sound recording of the CAI
The one you have in the intake now, that's suppose to go into the blue vacuum solenoid valve. Then from the other solenoid valve,it goes to the intake. You have an 04 right?

Yes I do have a 04.The other vacuum solenoid got 2 inlets. Does it matter which one to connect to?I've tried the closest, reset the ECU, no more ODB code, no check engine, no rough idle!!Cheez!! Well, I've learned a lot: Always label you tubes if disconnecting more than 1, learned how to clean a TB.Thank you so much guys! I hope it might help others.

I ended up downloading instructions from AEM and Injen to help my install at the time.

Hehe!! Furthermore: I think the pictures are from a matrix (the air filters/vacuum tubes were not as pictures). One thing I didn't install yet and not sure if it's that important: the "vibratum". The hole where I'm supposed to connect the CAI is off about 2 inches.I've drove the car without it and since the installation is thigh, I don't hear any sound that would come from the CAI on the body.Since yesterday: no ODB codes. YE!

as usual I'm late to the party.my kid installed my cosmo on my 05 base and he fought with it getting in the opening behind the light, what he did was to loosen the panel in the wheel well while I slid the tube in he attached the filter and then it was man handling the assembly to get it to attach to all the pegs . . especially the vibration pad.we did disconnect/remove the battery and tray first thing which were in the instructions.before reinstalling the battery he touched the two battery connections together for 10 seconds to drain the computer to get it to reset. he said I would get crappy performance/mileage for the first couple of weeks while the computer relearned. touching the two battery leads together are on the instructions he had with his CAI for his Mazda 3.I never had a cel
