In every toyota we have had when you turn the car on the doors lock automatically and unlock when you turn the car off. I really like this feature and according to the owners manual in the vibe, it is capable of doing. How does this get programmed to do.....do i have to take it to the dealer or cn i do it myself. in our new camry we have it so wehen you shift out of park the doors lock. any info????????????????????????
To clarify, this feature was first made available in the 05 model. If you have an 03/04 model, and your manual says that, it's an error. 03 and 04 do not have that feature. If you DO have an 05, read on.Quote, originally posted by 2005 Owner's Manual, Page 2-10 »Programmable Automatic Door LocksIf you have an automatic transaxle, your vehicle is equipped with an auto door lock/unlock feature which enables you to program your power door locks. Your vehicle left the factory programmed to Mode 4.The following is a list of the available programming options:Mode 1: All doors and liftgate lock when the shift lever is moved out of PARK (P) with the ignition on and all doors and liftgate closed. There is no automatic door unlocking.Mode 2: No automatic door locking or unlocking.Mode 3: All doors and liftgate lock when the shift lever is moved out of PARK (P) with the ignition on and all doors and liftgate closed. All doors and liftgate unlock when the shift lever is moved to PARK (P) with the ignition on. Mode 4: All doors and liftgate lock when the shift lever is moved out of PARK (P) with the ignition on and all doors and liftgate closed. All doors and liftgate unlock when the ignition switch is turned from ON to ACC or to LOCK. To change the mode you are in, do the following:1. Set the interior lamp control dial to the door position. See Interior Lamps Control on page 3-16.2. Move the shift lever into PARK (P) and close all doors and liftgate.3. Turn the ignition to ON.4. Within five seconds after the ignition is turned to ON, press and hold the power door lock switch in the lock position for about five seconds.5. The interior lamp will flash to indicate that the mode has been changed. For example, if the lamp flashes once, the function has been changed to Mode 1.If the battery is disconnected or run down, the mode is changed to the initial mode which is Mode 4.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
anyone know how to do this on the 09 models? I get out a lot for work and leave the car running, and i really don't want to get locked out on the corner of BFE and You Got a Purdy Mouth.

nope, it does lock when you shift out of park, but won't unlock unless you either open the door (only the door that you open from the inside) or turn the key off. I went by the stealership and they were befuddled.
I'd like to know if there's any way to change the mode on a 2010.The '05 instructions don't work. I'd like the choice of which mode to use. I prefer what's labeled as "Mode 2" above. It seems to be set in "Mode 4" as delivered.I didn't see anything about changing modes in the manual.Thank you!
In section 12-9 of the 2009 owner manual, it appears that the logic can be dealer programmed to unlock all doors when the car is put in Park, or when the ignition key is turned off.
