Hello y'all i'm new at GenVibe.comI'm in the "evaluation process", i've always like the Vibe but never got one (i drive a Torrent) i'm now ready for one however i need you guys input on the following:Do i get, the FWD with the 1.8l / 4 speed Auto?or the 2.4l / 5 speed Auto?Essentially, apart from the output both engine deliver and their respective fuel consumption, what will be the difference between the 4speed an the 5 speed? Is there a difference in engine revs. at 100 kmh (60mph) will one feel more "sluggish" than the other. which is the most performant? Thanks
That which may be known of God is evident within man, for God has shown it to them, so that they are without excuse.(Romans 1:19-20) What do you want most in life?
i am choosing 2.4 auto (GT) because well i'm coming from a 3.5L car with 255hp but is getting horrible gas mileage so a 2.4 will suit me best since i don't want to give up too much hp (only about 100hp). i drive about 26 miles to and from work and mostly hwy sometimes traffic so the automatic is fine, and should get at least 28-30'ish on hwy which is almost 10mpg better than what i'm getting right now. plus it's always good to have some extra power on hand when you need it...i'm willing to give up the extra few mpg that the 1.8 gets.as for 4sp vs 5sp, i don't know too much about the technical stuff...i just want a damn 5sp automatic lol the extra sp seems to give the car better response and at hwy speed should be lower rpm too.you are in canada...i think it snows there huh? maybe you should get the awd...but that only has 4sp auto so i don't know.
errr...you are asking for opinions from others, its best to go test drive each and see which one you like. I would suggest doing that and pushing the car on the test drive, ie. passing on hwy. so you get a REAL good feel for it. oh yes...as mentioned by lowincash, you may want to consider a awd OR the fwd with snow tires if you are in CAN.
It's mostly whether you like to drive or not. A manual is more entertaining and an auto is less involving. If you drive a lot of gridlock, I guess an auto is better. I've only had one auto since 1970... and that was my first car. After that, manuals have been the choice. I don't even consider a car that offers no manual option. On the performance side: auto trans are getting pretty good, but most will still give up a little mileage to the manual version. I haven't had experience with the 2.4l. I slug around in a 1.8l manual and approach 40 mpg with my 08 Vibe. Then again, I don't tow stuff with or even race my Vibe. It's just a great little utility/commuter vehicle.

For snow, just add 4 good snow tires and take it easy. Saves on all the added cash output, weight and mechanical drag offered by the '4 wheel drive' option.

It also depends on what kind of equipment you want. GM made a bonehead move to give the 1.8 buyers the shaft, there's all kinds of good stuff that you can't get on the 1.8, you have to get into the more thirsty 2.4L. I would want a 1.8L for optimal FE loaded up like the 2.4, but they don't make 'em like that.

GT has a 5 speed auto and the 1.8 is a 4 speed auto. 2.4l will get worse mileage, but have more pep...again i totally think a test drive is needed.

if you are considering the 2.4L vibe i would highly recommend you also look at the scion xB. It is the same car for less money with more space and likely higher resale value. Be sure to test drive it as well.

Be sure to test drive it as well.i've test drove the new xb and honestly it doesn't seem to drive as nice as the vibe...well i only test drove the GT so that was a more entertaining drive than the xb. the xb only has 4sp auto and still uses torsion beam...plus the gauge...it's in the center of the dash? very odd position. the vibe is still the better choice i think. although i do like the look of the xb quite a bit =/
i didnt drive the 4spd xB i drove the manual...only way to go with an economy car.I like the rugged look of the xB interior and out, the information pod that monitors mpgs etc, and the iPod integration. Wish the vibe had those features. But consider this,Vibe GT - bases for about $20kxB - can be had for $16400. Big difference IMObut i like the way the Vibe GT looks, and its seats are nicer
