Hello everyone,My father and I were changing my oil the other day and noticed a lot of grease by my driver-side brakes and wheel-well. We found a crack on the CV Boot and covered it with some heat-resistant tape. I've called some shops already and they recommend just replacing the entire drive axle with a re-manufactured one, as the CV Boots/Joints are hard to find new, and are generally more expensive. Any ideas on where to find out, or what to recommend? I have a shop looking for me right now, but I want to be a bit proactive myself. Thanks.
Call Napa and the Toyota Dealer to see if they have a Boot Repair Kit for the CV Joint available. You will need to specify if you need the inner or outer. Price a new CV Joint out while your at it and compare the price.

Thanks.I can't suggest a part place other than what was already suggested (maybe Pam's Auto), but I agree. New probably isn't worth it, but if you just stick with the tape, you'll end up replacing it or rebuilding the CVs. Having rebuilt a few, when it comes down to that option, replace them EVERY time - they aren't worth the hassle of a home rebuild.

Can't see why there wouldn't be any floating around,it is the same as the Corolla.But it would be cheaper in the long run to replace the whole axle assembly.Duct tape works good also.

NEVER replace just the boot.IT is was torn for more than a few miles, you now have grit and gravel and who knows what, mixed in with the bearing grease. It's quite hard to get all the contamination out without dropping the whole axle, and then you might as well replace it. They're not expesnive at all these days. $50-$100 usually.But if you slap a new boot on it, somewhere down the road, when you least expect it, the joint itself can fail, and that ain't pretty sometimes.
