Hey all, i just got a 2009 vibe for work. I had to trade in my 2005 vibe with 227,000 miles on it, but i've had a flip out dvd player for almost 2 years. This made the miles cruise by, and the days much shorter than the average of 7-9 hours a day i spend in my car. My question is this:Does anyone make a wiring harness yet for the 2009 vibe/matrix? I would also like to keep the On Star functioning if possible. I know Metra already makes a radio install kit, but search as i might, i can't find a wiring harness for the 2nd gen vibes. Also, i had my 05 set where it would lock the doors when i put the car in gear, then unlock when i put back in park. I could'nt find the instructions to do this in my new owner's manual (like it was in the old one). I like this function because i'm constantly getting in and out of the car (while leaving it running), and i don't want to take the chance on locking myself out on the corner of BFE and You Got A Purdy Mouth. And last question, i tried the sequence for turning off the seat belt reminder chime and it did'nt work. Any suggestions? When i held in the odo button, it just sat there and would'nt turn to the b-off. I wear my seat belt at all times, but i have enough junk in the passenger seat (laptop, bag with all files, and a huge water mug) that the sensors detect something, and every time i stop and start again, i get the super long *** warning chime even though i have my seat belt on.Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Most newer GM cars need the Metra GM OnStar Interface to retain Onstar functions. It is not available for the Vibe yet. I have no idea when it will be available. I do know that it is expensive. I priced one using my wife's 2007 G5 on Crutchfield, $174.00 for the interface and cables.
yikes. But what about the wiring harness if i don't care about keeping OnStar? is it the same as previous vibes? Honestly, i've been going a little crazy without my dvd player, i think i need that more than onStar, lol
Crutchfield doesn't have any info on the harness yet, I'm sure they will soon. Last week, the 09 Vibe wasn't showing up on their site, today it does. I think if you wait a couple weeks, the harness will be available.

That is AWESOME... If only the kit were silver....
thanks kevera, that's awesome. I know it sounds crappy, but i honestly don't care what it looks like. I wish i did, but i know this thing is gonna see so many hard miles, it's almost like i wish i would hurry up and get a scratch or ding or something so i would stop worrying about it, lol. And on the door lock thing, i went by the dealer today and 4 people tried to look up the combination to change the way the door locks engage and no one could help. Surely there's something like this for the matrix, it would work on the vibe, right?
I need some help on this topic...We have a new 09 vibe (1.8 liter, standard stereo) and we want to get an after market stereo installed. We are trying to get the parts ourselves so we don't get jacked up pricing on them from the installers. I checked Metraonline.com and they seem to have harnesses now, but i wanted to clarify the descriptions. There are 3 options, Harness into car, harness into oe radio, and add a radio to oe system. I think we need the later, Add a radio to an OE system? This is the descriptionFor non-digital, amplified audio systems-Retains Onstar with adjustable volume output-Retains chimes with adjustable level output-Retains RAP feature-Navigation outputs now included-USB update interface compatibleThe GMOS-LAN-02 interface is designed to allow the user to replace the OEM radio with an aftermarket unit in amplified 2006-07 GM vehicles that use the new GMLAN data bus system and retains full functionality of the Onstar system as well as all safety and warning chimes. The GMOS-LAN-02 will also retain the retained accessory power convenience features. This interface has the capability of adjusting chime and Onstar volumes as well. In addition to these features, the GMOS-LAN-02 now has the required outputs for the installation of a navigation radio.Followed by this product note:Product Notes for 2009 PONTIAC VIBE 4DR SPORT WAGON WITH 1.8L ENGINE AND STANDARD AUDIO SYSTEM Factory amplified system only. The product note concerns me, because i have the 1.8L with a standard audio system, what does Factory amplified system only mean? The stereo we want to install is a Kenwood KVT 815. We have been carrying it around since we bought it almost 4 years ago waiting for a car we were going to keep to spend money on getting it installed, and we are anxious now to get it done. However we would like to keep the onstar functions, since we get a year free with the new car and may want to keep it afterwards. I also found this description under the option Haqrnesses into car:For non-amplified audio systems-retains Onstar with adjustable volume output-Retains chimes with adjustablelevel output-Output for audible turn signal sound-Retains RAP feature-Navigation outputs now included-USB update interface compatibleThe GMOS-LAN-01 interface is designed to allow the user to replace the OEM radio with an aftermarket unit in non-amplified 2006-07 GM vehicles that use the new GMLAN data bus system and retains full functionality of the Onstar system as well as all safety and warning chimes. The GMOS-LAN-01 will also retain the retained accessory power convenience features. This interface has the capability of adjusting chime and Onstar volumes as well. In addition to these features, the GMOS-LAN-01 now has the required outputs for the installation of a navigation radio. The description seems identical except it doesnt have the product note for factory amplified systems only, but the years it has in the description doesn't include 09...I havning a bit of overload trying to figure this out, i don't really understand any of it, and any help in figuring out what harness i need would be hugely appreciated...thanks so much in advance!!Rachel and Mykel
OK well my husband doesn't care about keeping onstar so we just need a harness to make the aftermarket stereo work, don't care about door dings or any of that stuff...The link in a previous post to installer.com though was for 09 matrix, not vibe, if you look up 09 vibe on there there is nothing listed for wiring harnesses...I understand they are basically the same car but want to make absolutely sure that the harness will work, so has anyone gotten a previous year harness to work for the 09 vibe? I can find much cheaper harnesses for previous years but only ones starting at $80 even to not keep onstar working (from metra) so far that are specifically for the 09...
Welcome to Genvibe..!!To get right into it... Are you buying the equipment and THEN taking it somewhere to have it installed? Or are you buying the radio and having the install done at the same place? If so, I would actually allow them to use there products for the install.. It's good to know the prices of things, being an informed customer, knowing that they DO, mark things up, so as to not get "screwed" over, but you are seriously gouging into the shop profits, when you bring things with you for the install.. (if it's a mom n pop shop, not a big box place)They need to make money to... I have an aftermarket stereo install tutorial in the DIY section... It's really not that difficult, if there is a consideration for a home install.. If you have the basic audio system, it's likely that you don't have any of the on-star crap running through the system.. The on-star retension harnesses car run up to 150$ BTW.. If you don't have any on-star functions, then life is a lot easier, and cheaper.. If you thing you all can handle the install, crutchfield.com is a great place to purchase aftermarket gear from... I say this because they are factory authorized for most of the brands they sell, so you retain the factory warentee (something you usually DON'T get if purchasing from Ebay and like) you also get all of the install products needed, dash kit AND wiring harness PLUS, install instructions...!!
We already have the stereo, we have had it for 4 years but have not installed it in any of our vehicles yet because we weren't keeping any of them...But the shop suggested we bring our own parts (they arent really a mom and pop place either, its a chain and this one works with every dealership in town on installs etc) And they quoted us a price for labor without the equipment. My husband says we can forgo the onstar retension, so which harness would we need? I read about previous years models working but havn't found confirmation on that for sure. The previous year harnesses i have seen are definitely alot cheaper. My husband did consider installing the stereo himself, but theres a brain and the stereo and ususally him+wires= aneurism so we figured $75 would be worth it. We may end up letting them order the harness, if I keep having trouble figuring out what one to get...thanks for your reply and advice, I will have my husband look at your tutorial! Rachel S
Personally, if it were up to me, i'd have them get you the harness... Just make sure they know, you want a basic one and don't care about the door buzzer and whatnot...
Do you know what the model number for the harness is? Was it one large connector or was it two smaller connectors? I am having trouble locating a harness that will work.

I emailed Metra, and they said to me that these harness will fit the 09 vibe : GMOS-LAN-01, GMOS-LAN-02I don't know if these will actually work , but that's what the tech at metra said to me...
both of those parts are super expensive... I remember working at Circuit City and one of those quick install connectors were like $5 bucks @ cost.I'm wondering what the cost is for one of those kits... I will be looking to replace mine after the factory XM subscription runs out.

Gotta love big brother watching you (on-star)
