I bought my first vibe two weeks ago, and have noticed a few things since taking it home. I do mostly city driving and notice that the car gear hunts far too much. I hope someone can reprogram the computer to make the "manual" shift mode more manual. The car seems to utilize engine break far more than most automatics. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I agree, there's a delay every time I shift, it still responds, just not as fast as it should.Quote, originally posted by viewwin » The car seems to utilize engine break far more than most automatics. Is anyone else experiencing this?Yes, its caused by the stabilitrack system and I don't think there's anything we can do about it, on a positive note, I use my brakes less. You can turn it off for city driving, but it will automatically turn on above 35mph.
the triptronic shifting is slow? because EVERY car I have been in with it, is slooooow as heck. Audi S3, chev malibu lt, etc. you tap then...wait.....then yes its there. you did buy a "cheap" econobox, so its not going to be blazing fast to shift. Leaving it in "auto" the car hunts for gears badly?
It was more like "I expect to select gears and it not change unless I select a different gear." So, when I shift it over, it should be in the current gear, not have it in any gear from 1-4. If i am driving in third, it should be in third. I would hope a computer reprogram could solve this. Most of my driving is in the city, under 45 m/h. The car hunts gears to much, kinda wish I had gotten the manual instead.
Ah yes the crappy triptronic shifting will shift for you if it thinks its better. The only car ive driven that didnt do that was the mazda6. WOW that was cool, Id have it in 1st and could red line it and it wouldnt shift. I had to do it :DWell, if its that new see if you can swap for a manual one. The dealer I bought my ms3 from gave me a 3 day 300 mile return policy. but if you are still getting a car from them they may allow it :sDidnt you test drive it before you bought it?
Nope sorry bud same crappy fake tiptronic in every low-end toyota. I once rented a 4cyl solara and messed around with the auto Yuck! You might be able to superchip it or something, I would look up ECU upgrades for TCs then again that stuff might do nothing more than blow up your engine

I don't mean to hijack the thread but I didn't know that Stabilitrak was responsible for the "downshift" or "engine brake" when I continually applied the brakes going downhill. I thought it was a standard feature in all Vibe automatics. Personally, I think this is a great feature.
