Hi, This is a really basic question, but here goes:I have a 2005 Vibe with the factory installed roof racks (side rails).I have a Thule soft sided cargo carrier I want to mount on the roof.Do I need crossbars? If so, does anyone have advice about what kind to buy? I have seen a few sites offering "official" looking crossbars that sit above the side rails. There are also generic ones by Thule and others.Any recommendations? I need basic help from square one!Thank you so much!
Hi picketth, welcome to genvibe. a set of cross bars would lift the carrier up off the roof, would help protect the paint from getting rubbed. My Vibe has the early model crossbars that fit between the side rails, they sit very close the roof and are hard to tie anything to. A lot of people take them off, so you might want to get a set that is easy to take off when you don't need them. Not a lot of help, but I had to post something when I saw where you are from. A close friend of mine used to have a farm in Steeles Tavern, we were always inventing reasons to visit. You are in a very beautiful part of the US
We got the 'official' GM Utility Bars from:http://pontiac.dealerfit.com/s...8.phpI think they're probably made by Thule (same dimensions and style), but were actually less expensive than I could find at Thule dealers. They go on and off very quickly and come with locks
