Yea or Nay?I read a few of the old posts and there were conflicting opinions (of course) on whether it's a good idea or not. The reason this came up was that my dealer called me the day after purchasing mentioning a special promotion; get an extension to my warrantee (would cost extra) or the undercoating for free the first time and $20 per year afterward. To be honest, I'm not sure if I should be suspicious or to just take the freebee and not bother with the yearly treatments. Does anyone else in Ontario have any experience with this offer?
Ask for the fine print details but DO NOT let them drill any holes into the body to undercoat the car! If they say they have to drill holes to spray behind panels, walk away from the deal and say no.Also, most undercoat jobs require you to come back periodically for re-applications.

A product known as Krown Rustproofing is widely known in Ontario:http://www.krown.com/#default

Is your Vibe new or used? If new, don't even consider the undercoating. Your warranty should cover any corrosion issues that may come up. As far as the extended warranty, it depends on what they offer. If you can get GM major guard coverage, it may be worth it. What is the warranty offer? who provides the coverage?
The Vibe is an 09' brand new off the lot. I'm not sure if Major Guard is one of the options, but the gist of it was that they'd offer $1000 towards a warrantee extension, but the 'suggested' extension was going to cost be an extra $500 or so. I don't really believe in betting against the reliability of my purchases, so I leaned toward the coating.

You have 3yr/36,000mile corrosion protection and 6yr/100,000mile rust through warranty already. The extended warranty may be worth considering if it extends the bumper to bumper coverage and isn't too expensive. As I mentioned, GM Major Guard is a good warranty, if it's a third party company, read all the fine print carefully. Watch out for high deductibles, hidden fees, etc.
Undercoating is at best a complete waste of money, and at worst can actually harm a car, depending on how competent the person doing the job is.Edmunds did a whole thing on dealer add-ons a while back, but I can't seem to find it at the moment. In any event, it is unlikely that a properly maintained and reasonably cared for modern vehicle will rust out before it has become mechanically worn out.
