What is wrong with my air conditioner and heater blower?

Post by Hellga »

So, sometime around August of last year, I read about the trick where you contort yourself into an uncomfortable position and fiddle with the bits under the glove box, to make the AC blow colder (or something like that). I printed out the page, followed it to the letter, and it worked...for like, 5 days. Now, it still looks the same underneath. My handiwork is still accomplished.HOWEVER:1: The blower no longer blows until the dial is set to 3. That's 3 out of a whole 5 I have to choose from. At 5, it now blows about as well as it did on 3 last year. If you own a Vibe, you should know how hard it is to cool it anyway...now imagine you can't turn it past 3!!!!2: The stuff under the glove box rattles and vibrates and generally makes an (removed) of itself when the blower is going. I can stop the vibration with my foot when I'm in the passenger seat, and that tones down the noise, but it's really frustrating. Can anyone help me? The freon (frion?) is still good and at a good level, we checked it. I really don't want to have to pay someone to fix this problem, and it's definitely not under warranty anymore, so I really would like to fix this myself. Any ideas at all?Oh, also, my vibe is a 2003 model, FWD, and I don't know what other info you'll need. It's blue?:-D

going by the first thing you posted about it only blows on the 3 or higher..you musta done something and blew the resister in it..its a common thing for pontiacs to do it..my sunfire did it and it was easy to replace..not sure how difficult it is on the vibes though

the Blower motor resistor has failed and you will need to replace it! There are a few threads already on that issue. A search should locate these threads quickly.

Thanks, both of you! I'll find some of those threads and hopefully get the problem fixed before the temps get up into the 90s here in a few weeks...blech.

Okay, I've asked at like 379 auto parts stores, and the general consensus is that the Blower Motor Resistor doesn't exist. Can someone please tell me where to get it, or at least a part number? We're dying of heat here!

Also, if it blows on "3" but doesn't seem to put out anymore air on "5" you might have a nasty cabin air filter. See http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=982 on how to check it
