It's their very first new car --- always bought used. Now that all their kids are moved out, I guess its save peppy hatch but I would have preferred a new 08-09 Vibe/Matrix...
They seem to be nice cars, pretty cute. The upcoming redesign that will be here soon looks like a nice progression, I saw some pics of that recently - looks good. The only bad thing I hear about them is the gearing is geared toward performance and not optimal for the best fuel economy, they pull a lot of revs at cruise on the highway. How's the supply of those up there, were they able to get a good deal? Down here from what I gather some dealers have waiting lists for them and no doubt are charging over MSRP. They were hard to come by and dealers were overcharging back in '06 when I was looking for something small and cheap too, they hadn't been out very long so I didn't even bother looking. Sorry they didn't get the Vibe, but they should still have a fun, zippy little car that will get them around for a long time.

We "older" people often don't drive that many miles so a few extra mpg is not as critical as the cost of the car. I am trying to get my GM rebate juiced up to maybe $2,500 by early 2010 so the net price of a new Vibe ought to be about the same as a Fit. My low miles 2003 should fetch a good price via private sale making the upgrade from a 2003 to a 2010 perhaps as little as $10,000.

The fit was interesting when I wanted one back in 01-03.those paranoid US honda executives, are too cautious for their own good.Of course I had to wait on the hatchback/wagon market to pick back up from the grave quite literally, and to be honest to this day am waiting on a vehicle I love to appear.I love Japanese designs, but the moron American designers crap them all up. I originally passed on the vibe when it first came out, because while it pretty much did everything I wanted in a car, it had a few "flaws" I had hoped someone would weed out on future wagons, it has yet to happen, and when I got a deal on my vibe I snatched it up. I must admit it had grown on me considerably since getting it.The fit at least the gen one version suffers from a major problem I have with all current hondas, the interiors are like sitting on rocks.I am a bit interested in this new gen fit, but I doubt I would trade into one as I do not want a payment ever again. and after hauling my daughters old twin mattress to the salvation army, I would be surprised if the fir could duplicate such a feat, and thats my new standard, even though it was a very tight fit.Plus economic cars now demand such a premium its just not worth paying it.Its strange I used to be such a Honda fan, now it seems I have outgrown them with my childhood.
Does the Fit use a 1.3 or a 1.5L engine, I forget. I test drove a 5spd. Sport once, pretty peppy and the handling was impressive for that kind of car. It's no speed racer, but it got the job done compared to it's competition. I do see more Versa hatchbacks than Fits on the road though.
I like those little Smart Cars too and they're much more practical in the rain than a Vespa scooter.Bull, If you think you are disappointed in what your parents drive.......mine are still driving a Ford Taurus and it has such low mileage it will last FOREVER. I hope your folks enjoy their new Honda Fit.

I totaled my rents taurus a few years back, I borrowed it between cars, and a bus pulled out in front of me, and the rear wheel monster trucked the hood. it was 3 days after having a tranny replacement too,.
