Clear Coat and Paint Problems - Solution?

Post by mydogsowner »

Hi~I have been reading the posts about these issues and had some questions? Is it feasible to take my new Vibe to a paint shop and have more layers of clear coat applied? What would something like that cost? Has anyone else tried this?I know there is a warranty for rust/paint, but it seems like folks have had difficulty with Pontiac/Dealers backing it up. I have dull spots already from bird droppings on my new 2009 Vibe and they sat less than 24 hours. Any precautions I can take now to ensure longevity of my new vehicle would be worth it.

I know this problem has been posted many times, so I am sorry if this is boring and redundant....... While I was Googling this problem, I ran into this thread on another forum:http://www.tundrasolutions.com...007-a/Especially of interest to me is the 8th post. Has anyone else heard of this before?Again, I apologize if this topic has been specifically discussed. I did a quick search on it in this forum and didn't find this specifically, but I quickly scanned the posts to be honest.I am still curious if bringing it to a paint shop for more clear coat would work. Can anyone enlighten me on this? TIA, Lisa

OK, I answered my own question on this by making a few phone calls. There's a car paint shop here, http://www.earlscheib.com/index.php, and they gave me the best answers. Here's what I found out through them....Yes, the paint coming out of California is water-based due to the regulations there. However, they have to use it in their shops out there too and have had no problems with theirs bonding, chipping, etc. He also said all of the states would eventually go to water-based as well, in his opinion. He said they would have to "rough" up (sand) my car first for the new clear coat to adhere. The total cost for two coats would be $300 plus tax. He also said I could wait a few years to do it as he saw no real advantage to doing it now.If anyone read these posts and was interested in a solution to the paint problem, I hope this was useful information for you. I decided I will watch and wait a year or so and see how bad it gets.
