34mpg os great but 50mpg would be better. the vibe is a great vehicle, lots of room, light weight, how about a Toyoyta hybrid engine option?Vybrid or viberid or vybryde or even vybryde ha ha ha. any other ideas?

It actually is far less "efficient" than it's hyped up to be. GM's two-mode system is actually more efficient than Toyota's.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

would be cool if there was a way to hack the thing so that both the gas and electric motors could work at the same time for when you wanted that extra kick of power. hybrolift

GM's two-mode system is actually more efficient than Toyota's.The hybrid synergy drive developed by Toyota is less (I wouldn't say far less) "efficient" than it's hyped up to be, but it's not just Toyota doing the hyping...it's moslty owners of the Prius and word of mouth...My senior capstone project in college was a detailed comparison of specific efficiencies of hybrid drive systems. This study included the teardown of both a Toyota hybrid system and a Honda hybrid system. The Toyota system was far and away more robust. The GM AHS2 (now the GM two-mode system) stirred the waters, but it hadn't seen enough real-time production and testing to determine it to be 'available technology'. That said, I'd still be timid to buy the first few years worth of hybrids from GM, simply from a new technology = bugs standpoint. Is it more energy efficient? They haven't put it on a comparable car (ie compact four cylinder car)...it's all numbers so far and sometimes, the numbers don't reflect reality.I'm not picking a fight here, just pointing out that while I'm excited about this new technology, I'm concerned that more efficient or not, it will be mated to a V6 or V8 a la the Honda Accord...not a bad idea, but my idea of an econo car is a 2 to 4 cylinder vehicle that gets 45+ mpg, and until someone proves to me that you can get 45+ mpg from a 6-8 cylinder vehicle, I'm bound to believe that GM will struggle with this. However, before you flame on, I think it is important to improve the fuel economy of ALL vehicles, but that may require some awareness on our part. We can't all get 500/500/500 like we all seem to want (500 hp, 500 ft-lbs, 500 mpg) from the same car. You must truly balance what is important to you - power or efficiency - and ask yourself which is more important...they can't always tie...ask yourself if your opinion remains the same whether gas is $2.50 a gallon or $7.50 a gallon...Back on topic, go for it - I like the name VYBRID

hydrides ftw. http://www.switch2hydrogen.com/h2.htmi was really looking forward to getting this over these "fuel cell" cars. but thanks to the U.S. government it's now illegal to get hydrides. stupid H-prize contest also, they were so close! it was about 2 months away from full release and now a year has passed and we are still using sub-standard "fuel cells" and "hybrids". inorder to really get good mpg out of a hybrid, instead of using gas to power a generator and have the car run off electry, it should instead use a mix of gasoline burning motor and solar enegry.
None. Vibe is gone.

GM seems to market the Vibe as little as possible, so I have doubts about them making it a hybrid, Vibes are a side project, not a headlinera bit OT, but I was listening to a call in segment on C-SPAN radio a month or two ago, about fuel efficiency, gas prices, etc, and some guy called in to say that cars should harness wind energy, because anybody can feel the power of wind in a car by sticking your arm out a window while driving down the highway, that if they could harness that power, cars wouldn't need any gasoline at all. I thought that was pretty funny, but the guy was serious. Guess he had the FLU (Fundamental Lack of Understanding) It will be interesting to see what cutting edge technology will bring about in the coming years.

(removed)....because car's don't utilize the wind at all already right?I don't think using one of the major oposing forces of motion would be an efficient idea... I'm surprised no one came up with this great idea yet: We should somehow capture the energy created by the friction of the tires coming in contact with the concrete and somehow use it!!!!

a vibe or trix hybrid would be sweet. My next car will be a hybrid or EV. I rode in a prius and it was freaking sweet. Lith Ion batteries just need to come down in price :/

time warpFound this news itemhttp://www.kvbc.com/Global/story.asp?S=8776072Quote »NV company debuts electric hybridUpdated: Aug 1, 2008 08:58 PM EDT Even with gas prices decreasing over the last week, a trip to the pump can still be painful. Friday, News 3's Jerry Brown got behind the wheel of an automobile, developed by a Nevada Company that you won't be seeing at your local gas stations. The first thing you notice is that it's quiet. The second thing: it's quick. Hybrid Technologies, a Las Vegas-based company, was showing off its newest and greenest converted vehicle Friday. This lithium-powered, all-electric "Flash" was first created in England as a BMW Mini Cooper. It traded horsepower for kilowatts - 67 to be exact - and now can travel 120 miles using a $2.20 charge of electricity. It's top speed is 80 miles per hour, and maintenance, compared to gasoline-powered vehicles, is not a problem. The Flash drives smoothly, and unlike neighborhood electric vehicles known as "NEVs," this vehicle has no federally mandated speed restrictions built into it. Stepping on the accelerator has never been more guilt-free. The all-electric Flash will set you back $77,000 - new technology isn't cheap. Hybrid Technologies also produces an all-electric converted PT Cruiser, and for SUV lovers, they offer an all-electric Pontiac Vibe. but looking at the company's web site http://www.hybridtechnologies.com/products , I don't think it's based on a Vibe

If the engine every craps out in my vibe, I think I'll do an EV conversion. At least I hope to, just depends on if I can afford it. Then again hopefully that toyota engine will last forever.

You know, it's good to hear I'm not the only one! When i was deciding between the Vibe and Matrix, I liked the look and price of the Vibe over Trix, but I said to my ex, "what an unfortunate name... but I'd rather have the car I like than a name I think is cool. Besides, I could de-badge it."LOLIt's grown on me since then

I found the trix to have an unfortunate name just because of all the Matrix movie tie-ins when it had no appearance in the actual movie, and the Vibe just sounds like [insert Richard Jeni voice] one of them there personal neck massagers... I still like the car though.
