5-Channel Amp or 2 Separates?

Post by skylinedrifter »

I miss the thump and the rattle too much and, as good as my stereo sounds, It'll never thump the way I like it without a sub. So, since I sold all of my old equipment, this is a chance to take it to the next level. I am custom-building a box to fit a 200 watt shallow-mount 10" Pioneer under the passenger seat and was planning on putting a smaller amplifier under the drivers' seat but then I got to thinking.... the cab speakers (which have been upgraded) could use a cleaner signal.I can either go with a small 4-channel amp for the cab and a separate amp for the sub OR I can get a 5-channel that'll do all the work. Does anyone here have a 5 channel? Moreover, where the hell can I mount one so that it doesn't take up any space? The trunk area is out of the question and the area under the passenger seat is all sub.Any solutions will be be rewarded with my many thanks and 1,000 nubile virgins in the afterlife! :D

I assume that "Do IT" is Sublimewindspeak for "I'll front you the cash" yes? Actually, I've been eyeballing that unit. I can get it from a local shop for $390. Of course, I can also get the Blaupunkt THA 555 for $175 which would also fit right under the driver's seat but I question whether or not the sound quality would be improved at all...

The difference in SQ, would be minimal, but when you compair power specs and things, it might change... for the novice, I would say go with what fits your budget... The PDX is REALLY nice, it's one of them amps you'd likely only buy once... The Blau, maybe not so much... Quite personally, I would consider a 3ch amp (kicker makes a nice one) Amp the front speakers and the sub, run the rears from the head unit... amping them is really a waist of power and money, they are loow in the door, and don't help the sound much beyond rear "fill"... I'd spend the money on where YOU sit, the heck with the rest...

Well, I didn't go Blaupunkt, but I didn't get the Alpine, either.Got an brand new Infinity 5350a for $220. We'll see how it works. If I don't like it, you'll see it soon enough in the For Sale forums. lol.

But of course! Gonna have some pics of the FatMat application, pics of the amp installs and I am going to post my plans for my custom SW box once I confirm that it doesn't sound like complete (removed).
