Update on dog situation

Post by sloth »

As a bunch of you might recall, I lost my golden retriever a couple weeks ago. She was a wonderful dog....like all dogs (owners cause the issues with dogs), but old age caught up to her. My wife and I talked about what to do next, we decided neither one of us was ready for another dog. Well after 2 weeks of not having a dog, I was really bored at work, as my dog comes to work with me as I work for myself. So a girl at my wife's work needs to find a home for her dog, we agreed to keep it for 5 days as a trial run.... After 2 days, we were absolutely positive that wasn't the dog for us. Planned on keeping it the whole 5 days to make sure. It was an outdoor dog, that was very high energy (out of control energy). She knocked my wife down in the yard jumping on her. I thought the 5 days were going to seem like a year. On the 3rd day, I was looking at the swap shop page on our local radio station site..."Pure Bread 2 year old golden to give away." I had to call them and get the story, the picture was great....The baby was alergic to the dog, and they had to get rid of it. Told my wife, she wasn't sure. We decided to drive the 50 miles to "check her out". We pulled up, she came running and sat down right in front of us as we were going to the house. Absolutely gorgeous retriever and she's been with us since Monday now. The other dog went back home on that 3rd day, I hope they find a nice farm for that dog to go to.The new dog is name Kylee. Her original name was Riley, and that didn't seem very girly to us.

Nice to see you've found someone to help ease the pain. she's so cute...BTW, what kind of breed was the other dog?

Beautiful dog! Congrats on the new family member. It was nice you were able to give the other one a trial run.

The other dog was a black lab mix. Her mother was a purebread, but it sounded like the dad was most likely some kind of cow dog mix. She looked like a lab, head and everything, but she was about 60% the size of a lab.She would be a good dog for someone that ranched or farmed and were outside a lot with it. She just didn't like being inside at all. We like our dogs to be inside dogs so we can enjoy them more, and it gets extremely hot here during the summer and extremely cold during the winter.Kylee, has been so great for us so far. She gets along great with every dog we've introduced her to. The last couple nights we've played fetch until she's just wiped out. On Tuesday, she decided she need to cool off so she decided to go lay in the middle of a mud puddle left behind from the hail storm we received. (She did well for her first bath with us). Last night I filled up a water trough we had so she could lay in clean water.

I'm surprised it took two weeks! I know you still miss your other dog, but I know you feel much better with a new dog in your life. And somebody else looks very happy, too!

When we got Kylee, she had 2 horrible matts behind each ear. I finally got them out. Finally got them cut/brushed out.Anyway, if you have any matt issues with your pets DO NOT BUY the "Fur Pet's Sake DEMATTER" from walmart. It's even poorer quality than most things from china. About as sharp as a butter knife.
