Ever since I bought it, there had been a buzzing noise coming from the dashboard area just in front of the steering wheel. It would be particularly bad at certain RPMs but I was usually able to stop it with a little percussive repair. In recent weeks, though, it had become unbearable and no amount of pounding would silence it. So, I began hunting for the source of the buzz. I pulled the face off of the instrument gauges (just pull back firmly and it comes right off) and started feeling around for anything loose. No luck at first. Then, the next morning when I left for work I didn't put the face back on before I left for work. It wasn't long into my drive that I realized that this was the source of that damned buzzing. So I came home, whipped out some silicone caulk and applied a small bead around the back side of the gauge face. After a few hours to dry, I replaced it and there hasn't been a single buzz since. So, if anyone else has an annoying buzzing noise coming from their dashboard, give this a shot! Hopefully it'll work as well for you as it has for me.
Good call, i've used silicone for a NUMBER of "isolations" which is really what you did, you isolated the 2 panels from making contact, in a buzzing fashion...My trunk lid... always an issue when you add subs, the metal frame and the outside skin make contact, but only in a few places.... Buzzing terribly... A little RTV squeezed inbetween and blammo... no buzzing... Lisense plates are notiourous for rattling... a little leftover dynamat doesn't hurt either...
