Oxygen Sensor.. Help me :)

Post by robertinsandiego »

Hello gents, I'm a newbie. I need help with how to change a o2 sensor on my 2006 vibe. Any help or links, would help. If this is something I can do with my cousin who's good with these things, or should I take it to a mech. I've been getting a P0171 code for a while now. and now my mixture seems to be off, trouble starting ( battery is fine, CAI, is tight, and working properly) basically when I gass it at 3k rpm, it boggs.. I"m thinking the mixture is off because of the O2. Any thoughts and help could help me greatly..Thanks.Rob

IF I didn't know better I'd say you fried your MAF during the CAI install. Does it idle really rough?

Disconnect the battery for a while. Clean the MAF sensor with electronic or brake cleaner, don't touch the fine wire, just spray it. Run a tank or two of Techron fuel injector cleaner and see what happens. There's no way the O2 sensor should be toast yet. Apparently quite a few people with DBW throttle body Vibe's get this code with a CAI. My '06 never did. I'm assuming it's a Cosmo CAI, right? Did you oil the filter?

How can you make a blanket statement that "there is no way that the O2 sensor should be toast yet" - we're talking "electronics" - they can fail early - unlikely, but $hit happens.

Most all O2 sensors require a special socket to replace them, it has part of the side cut out so the wire can pass through it.. you can get the socket on loan from AutoZone..

guys...! thanks for all the responses, well, I cleaned the MAF, it'f fine, I put in a fuel injector cleaner solution (on only a half tank), and literally all this happenned AFTER that, I figured it was too strong so I filled up the tank (with same fuel and octane) 91, . So , this is where I"m at, "FUEL FILTER" I believe that something is clogging it that has gotten broken loose. Any thoughts? Because now, when I turn it on when it goes down to low idle, it just sounds BOGGY, and when I give it gas, there is a delay then slight rev. into the higher RPMs, then when it comes down to low, it shuts off.. Sounds like fuel problem? thanks again guys.Oh, and where the hell is the fuel filter on a 06'? back by the rear axle, after the gas tank? thanksRob

Nevermind.. hha. it's in the tank.. I think, the gas is too lean with tthe cleaner in it, and the CAE (Cosmo) on it as well.. I'll keep you guys posted.. thanks again.rob

sounds like the car is in limp mode if it's boggin at 3k... reset your computer and run threw three start stop cycles, min 75miles to see if the code it thrown again.

Talking from experience when I fried my MAF...I'd say yours is toast. Mine did the exact same thing ad same symptoms when I arcked the positive terminal on my battery to the CAI accidently.
