Hey all,Just wanted to give a status of my gas mileage on my 2009 Vibe GT. This is my second time I filled up. I had to put in 8.990 gallons of gas for the 244 miles I drove. (244/8.99 = 27.1 MPG) The car still had a 1/4 tank of gas left (on gauge). The car was driven 60% highway and 40% city. The acceleration was moderate. Also a lot of downshifting and accelerating on the highway to help break in the piston rings. The 2.4l seems to be very fuel efficient. Jay
Same engine as in my wife's Camry. We usually average 27mpg...60%city driving. However, this engine seems to like the highway. The best mpg we have had was a 400 mile interstate trip that returned 35.5 mpg while cruising 70-75mph.
I'm enjoying the 2AZ-FE a lot. The engine is extremely smooth for a 4-cyl and has a good amount of torque. I think the 2AZ was designed as an answer for the QR25DE found in a lot of Nissans (my old spec-v had one). The QR definately had more brute torque, but was not as refined as the 2AZ. The QR had a tendency to eat its own pre-cat as well as the secondary butterfly screws. So far I'm very impressed with the 2AZ engine.
Hi Jason,I see you own a 2009 Vibe. I'm a writer for Pontiac Performance magazine, and we're looking for an owner to feature for our Fall issue. Would you be interested? If so, tell me a bit more about yourself and we'll go from there? How do you like your Vibe?Occupation?Hobbies? Please send me a response to Skrause@gpworldwide.comThanks Jason!Hope to hear from you.Regards,Steve Krause -- Staff WriterPontiac Performance magazineTroy, MI
Just did the first fill-up on my 2009 Vibe AWD. I got 22.5mpg, all city driving with the A/C on half the time. Not be bad for a brand new motor with less than 300 miles on it. should get better as it breaks in.

Just did a 300 mile round trip at 55 to 60 mph, used the cruise some, 2009 GT with about 2400 miles on it, got 35.7 mpg. Better than I had thought I would do.
"update: I got 560km on my last tank with it not quite on empty yet... 75% highway driving, this is with the 1.8 liter automatic sorry i know its in km"Could you please post how many liters you filled the tank with. "not quite empty" doesnt tell us anything particularly useful. That way we can do the conversion to mpg ourselves.speaking of that, google has a great calculator. Just type things like this into the search field"km/liter = ? mpg"to get the conversion. If you know your km/L you can just type"13.5 km/L = ? mpg" and it will do the conversion.
ok so google conversion of560 km / 12 gallon = ? mpgyields roughly 29mpg. I am guessing at the 12 gallons because the tank is 13gal and genuine vibe said it was almost empty
That's about what I get with my GT when I drive it hard. Hard I mean @ 95mph on the highwayfor about an 11 mile stretch. The rest of my commute is @ 45mph on country back roads. When I go @ 5mpg over the speed limit I get around 32mpg. My last fill up was Friday morning and I got 32mpg with my 2009 Vibe GT
i have less than 900 miles on it...my first tank i got 26.89 mpg and my last tank was 29.98 mpg. i need to fill up this weekend so i'll see what this week's mpg is. i did drive harder this week than the previous. hope to see it get better as i put more miles on this car...so far i'm very happy compared to the 17-20mpg i got with my old maxima lol
I have a 2009 2.4 L Vibe with less than 1500 km and am surprised how low the gas mileage is so far. For the last three 40 L fill ups, I've gotten between 399 and 402 km, which amounts to around 22 mpg (US) or 27 mpg (Imp). How long does it take to break a new car in? My sales person told me I should be getting around 41 mpg (not sure if that's US or imperial), and it's faaaaar from that to date....Please help
i think the mileage depends on where and how you drive. do you drive a lot of highway? usually you'll get better mpg when driving longer distance i think.as for break in period, my sales guy says i don't have to break in the car...he says a lot of new cars don't need to be broken in. just don't drive at a constant speed for too long. but i don't know about 41mg tho lol
Thanks for the fast reply Forgot to say before that the majority (80% or more) of my km's is highway driving, and I usually go 110km/hr. I've heard rumours that using synthetic oil can improve gas mileage -- any ideas if that works, or any other suggestions from anybody?TIA
yeah, the window sticker on my 09 manual shift 2.4 litre is 39 mpg highway, I got 29 on mine the first tank of gas, and again on the second, will let you know if it improves any
This seems to be the best thread to comment on gas mileage with the 2.4L engine. My non-GT has a manual transmission and the mpg has been very consistent to far - even during a test of Arco gas v. Shell and Union 76.Anyway, miles just turned 2297 and the mpg has been 24.9, 26.1, 23.8, 26.1, and 25.2. This has been perhaps 60-70% city driving. Moderate use of AC.

I bought a used 2009 Vibe GT with 7900 miles on it. My first recorded mileage for a full tank was a dissapointing 21.4 MPG. This was only 11 gallons of fuel. it was mostly city and windy hill county roads with AC on full balls. I need to take a trip to see highway miles but at only 235 miles per tank I wont make it far on one fillup.
My worst mileage was around 21mpg. My best was 31mpg. I used to average around 27mpg mixed with spirited driving, but lately have been around 25... either the driving is more spirited, or the AC is having a big effect, or something else.

My best (since I started keeping track on MPG Tune back in May) is 33.9 (99% highway). My worst (since I started keeping track on MPG Tune back in May) is 26.1 (50/50). I average right around 28 with 50/50 driving.I use MPG Tune religiously. It's a really neat way to keep track of your gas mileage. On a side note, I have had the K&N Typhoon intake and AEM Dry Flow air filter installed since last July. Also, the Vibe is always fed 89 octane gas from Citgo (89 is actually the lowest grade at our local Citgo, whereas pretty much everywhere else the lowest grade is 87).

I'm looking for a Vibe right now and have found a couple '03 GT models that are priced well. What kind of highway mileage does the '03 GT model get? I know the specs I have seen say between 28-31mpg, but I was wondering if anyone was getting anything better.
