New Stereo before Gatlinburg, Opinions on this Unit (JVC KW-XG500)

Post by Whelan »

I like it cause the color scheme matches the car with the red/white, and the black is good to go with what was there. My stock CD player in the car does not work anymore and I really want an ipod hookup. Never quite got the ipod2car working. This comes with a hookup that allows me to control the ipod through the unit while it charges and comes with a remote. Any opinions. It is $250 total shipped!

i like that its big like the stock HU.....if its like my sony the ipod control through the HU is almost impossible to find songs when you have 22GB of music so i have to find the artist i want to listen to before i plug it in but it charges it as well.....besides that i like it

That's nice man, but you know my take on double DIN units... they are and insurance claim waiting to happen.. You could get all the features and possibly more , for the same, with a single DIN and get a small pocket for things like the iPod and or phone... As always though if you like it i'm happy...

That's a nice HU and it's a good deal, but consider the XG700 for another $50. It adds a USB port and plays AAC files. I have been buying JVC products for several years and have never had a problem with anything. They make a solid product.

So here is what I got for $249, I love Crutchfield!Could have picked up the unit for $164 from J&R, but they don't give you everything that the field does.-Head Unit-Instruction Sheet for my vehicle-Harnesses-Receiver kit-ipod adapterThe adapter will let me control my ipod through my head unit and remote. That way I can keep it in the hidden storage under the shifter while driving with no wires showing! And it charges it.I am not entirely new to stereos, I've installed a few, but it's nice to have that little extra with the sheet. The receiver kit will make sure it's a snug fit as well. Can't wait to post up pics.

Yeah Crutchfield is great for the layman.. Like you said you get everything for the install PLUS some things like the iPod cable (did that cost extra?) Usually they are factory authorized to boot which is a good ting if you ever need service.. I'm happy you are happy... always remember, anything is better than stock.. cheers man,..

I was so against going stock, but when my 6 disc in dash went on the fritz and tells me errors and just sits there when trying to eject. I figure it is better to get new than buy another factory head unit. I wanted one that fit in the spot, this will nicely. I wanted one that will have the same color scheme as the stock, this does with the red/white and black face. And it had the ipod hookup.I paid extra for the ipod connector because it not only charges but allows me to control my ipod through the unit and with the remote supplied. Cost $50, but worth it.

Nice Unit! Post pics when it is installed with and without the dash lights on. I always wondered, do the dbl din units like this one have removable faceplates for a little bit of theft deterrent? Or maybe even have a blank cover to go over it so it doesn't scream "STEAL ME!!!"???Just wonderin' for future reference...

I've made dummy face plates in the past out of stock radios, it's not that difficult, if you don't mind destroying it... The big problem is being able to set the HU back in far enough, to set the false face in a believable manner... From there it's just a matter of attaching it...

Or you just get some kind of tupperware top that fits over it, paint it black and pop it on when not in use.

I'm lookin into this, could be a good idea for mass production and sales. Don't wanna take off the plate or can't due to it's type, put a flat black cover over it and it looks hidden.
