Bad Bad Day so far.

Post by sloth »

Things aren't looking good for my Golden Retriever at the moment.About a month ago she got really sick and it lasted for about 5 days. Last night she got sick again. This time it seems to be worse. Got her in to the vet this morning and things aren't looking very good with initial exam. They took blood and I should know more this afternoon. The fact that she's lost 4 lbs in 30 days isn't sitting well with me.We rescued Baylee about 4 years ago. She comes to work with me everyday and sits behind my office chair while I work. I live out of town and come into my parents house to work so I can have a fast internet connection. Most days she's the only face I see until I go home at night. She's about 12 years old now, we rescued her from Golden Retriever Freedom out of Denver, CO. From the information that came with her, she spent about the first 7 years of her life in a dog run with little attention. When she got cancer, her owners wanted to put her down. The vet talked them into releasing her to the rescue as the cancer was treatable. I know her last 4 years has been the best years of her life, but I'm really struggling today. My wife is away at a training and won't be home until late tonight, and we have to leave for a doctors appoint 100 miles away early in the morning. I don't want to call my wife as there really isn't anything she can do, and she won't be able to make it through her training if I do call her.One of our good friends just put their dog down last week, which we watched every time they went out of town. Which isn't going to make this any easier. We also had to put a dog down a few years ago that had lived a very very long life, unfortunately my wife's best friend died in a car accident the day before. This is going to bring a lot of that to the forefront again.Hopefully I'm just a bunch of doom and gloom and Baylee rallies this afternoon and the blood tests come back with nothing major. But knowing my dog and how she acts even when she's not feeling well makes me very very worried at the moment.

I've known too many people that were selfish enough to do the wrong thing and the dog suffered needlessly. A pets last need is always the toughest to provide though.

It's hard to see your dog go through something like that. A couple months ago, our 4 month old puppy, who is now 6 months, got parvo. We debated weather or not to have her put down. It is a very difficult thing to deal with. I'm terribly sorry for what you have to go through with your dog.

Sorry to hear, Dan. Was she brought to the Vet the first time she was sick? Did they do any tests then? What were the results? I would tell your wife to call you when her training is done instead of waiting until she gets home to tell her. Your just waiting for test results today so no need to get her worried until you get the results back. If the results can wait until she is done then do that. If the results are more serious then I would tell her right away. If she is anything like my wife, she would want to know if something serious was happening to our dogs asap no matter what she was doing. She can take training again if she needs to. Baylee is only here once. Hopefully, things will work out for the best.I'll be praying for Baylee and for the both of you as well. Please keep us updated. We're here for you.

We took her to the vet the first time. We were on a weekend trip with the dog when she got sick and she had gotten into the trash at my in-laws so we assumed she ingested something that got her sick. That was the vet's thoughts as well. Gave her a shot to settle her stomach down a little and gave us a weeks worth of antibiotics to give her to kill any bacterial infection she may of had in her gut. She was also running a slight fever that pointed towards something she ate. This last weekend I had to run a 10 year old State baseball tournament so she was crated more than usual and didn't really have the opportunity to get into anything. And she's not running a fever this time. Thanks everybody for their kind words. I really needed to get this out and am feeling a little better. Hopefully the blood results will come back soon.

No worries. Everything is going to be fine. It's not her time yet.

Well that bad news has been confirmed . Her kidneys are shutting down. She can only get worse from here. My wife doesn't want me to do anything until she gets home. The vet can only help us (lack of a better term) this afternoon or tomorrow afternoon and we have to be at a doctors appointment tomorrow afternoon or it will be months before we can get back in to see this specialist.Hopefully my wife will call me back at her next break.

Awe, no. Sorry to hear, Dan. Make her feel comfortable and spend as much time with her as possible if there is nothing else that can be done. Ditto to what keith said, treat her to her favorite things if she is able to enjoy them. I'll keep praying for her and you both.

I am so sorry about your dog. I wish you had gotten better news today. I lost one of mine in April to cancer. As everyone else is saying, spoil her rotten and make what time she has left as good as possible.

I wish I could of spoiled her rotten, unfortunately she was feeling so bad she wouldn't even eat a piece of bacon. I brushed her and got a couple last tail wags out of her. She's dearly missed. I find myself looking in my rear view mirror a lot on the way in, looking for her head peaking over the rear seat.R.I.P. Baylee

I believe that God gave us dogs so we can experience unconditional love. Hopefully you'll meet again in a better place. I can't imagine heaven without them.
