Post by Nelson »

Just finished burning the tank of gas that came with the car from the dealer. We went 530km and the tank took 36L of gas.so.. in Canada we say it used 6.79L/100km (I guess)or.. 34.86 mpg!We got the steel blue one with A/C.

do you have a manual or an auto. What mix of hwy and city? Were you driving normal or driving to conserve gas?I started a thread asking about 1.8L mileage with a manual. I will put your data on that thread. If i keep seeing more numbers like that though i think im gonna have to get one.

it's an automatic.I was driving like normal, all in the city. 2 adult passengers and a newborn. just 10 seconds to warm up (till the tach drops down to 1100rpm)

Here's the results for my first 5 tanks:31.131.832.333.534.4It keeps getting better. It must just be me getting better at finding ways to squeeze more mileage out of it. My commute is the same every day--60 mile round trip, 90% on the hwy.1.8 manual.

I'm savoring over these numbers. I too have the auto Corolla-Vibe. My car has been in the shop (body) due to two stupid mishaps by my dealer. I have owned the car for 4 weeks, yet only been in possession of it for a week. I pick it up tomorrow. I know it will need gas soon, and I hope to get some numbers like you guys. I have been driving dealer cars for the entire month, and am sick and tired of watching the gas guage plummet in the Buick Enclave and Acadia they put me in. Give me my Vibe back!!

I also have 2009 1.8L Auto with 1700KM in Toronto,ON, but my milage is much less. I got 430KM with 38L regular gas from Shell stations; that is around 9L per 100KM mostly City driving by myself. Should I take it back to dealer? My guess is that they probably say that is normal, and want to charge me for inspecting it.

Hmmm...that does seem a little low...that about 20mpg. Although you have to take into consideration a few factors:--You said that mostly city driving. How far of a drive? Lots of stop and go? Is it a long enough drive that it gets fully warmed up?--It's an auto--It's still new and mileage tends to get better over time(oil changes). What is your driving style? I am incredibly (removed)(short/skip shifts, coast every chance i get, use the CC at 67 on the freeway, etc). You also might want to check your tire pressure. As far as taking it back to the dealer, I doubt they will care much. What was the epa estimated for city on a 1.8/auto(should have said on the window sticker)? IIRC, it was like 24mpg, so the dealer will likely say that 20mpg is with the acceptable range.

I drive about 15 Km each way, takes about 20 minutes, so daily round trip is about 30 KM for about 40 minutes. So the car usually warm up within 2 KM. Haven't changed the oil yet, will do it when it hits 2,000KM, will let you know if that helps.Usually I stop 10 to 15 times one way during busy hours. So up to 30 stops for a round trip. I try not to drive it hard, and try to keep my rev about 1500 rpm, but city driving, so sometimes end up reving to pass. Tire pressure is ok.Gas has 10% Ehanol, so this might be impacting economy.

I would wait and see what its like after 8-10,000 km... mines at almost 9,000 km. The first tank i got around 530km but now get 600km easy. You have to give everything a chance to break in.

I agree that the mpg is a bit low. It looks like you are doing everything right too.I live in Oregon and the gas here is 10% ethanol as well, so I wouldn't think that is the cause for such a discrepency.I have yet to do a full tank city driving, but I will admit that the lowest average mpg yet(about 30 mpg) had about 1/4 tank driven in the city.Good luck!

I have got the 1.8, with automatic and have got 29 mpg (imperial) for combined city and driving and 36 mpg for hwy. using cruise control. There might be some people comparing imperial mpg to US mpg gallon. Remember the Imperial gallon is about 20% bigger. I thought 36 mpg was great, way better than my Montana! The car has about 30,000 KM's on it, so it is broken in. Cannot see me getting better than that! Yesetrday I did 180 KM's on 14.09 litres of gas and that was filled right to the top of the tank.

180kms on 14L. About 7.8L/100km or 30mpg(US). If I drive 130+ and give the tires one hell of a workout in the corners (we have none of those flat, straight roads here), that is the mileage I get.If I drive nicely..... (See Sig)
