Transmission Bearing- Not available ANYWHERE

Post by abockmier »

I need a right differential transmission bearing- make is Nachi 40KC683- for an '03 Pontiac Vibe 5 speed Manual- I have checked all dealers, local bearing distributors of Nachi bearings, the Internet, and the Nachi company itself in Japan. Right now my car has been torn apart for 2 weeks- no one can locate the bearing and no one can tell me when and/or if the part is ever going to be available. I have loved my VIBE, but I am at my witts end! Who sells a car with bearings that cannot be found anywhere?!?!?! Hs anyone else had this problem?

Unfortunately, this is the first I have heard of it, let alone being a problem to locate one. If you have the specs for the bearing, can you not replace it with something similar? How about hitting up the junkyard and see if you can't pull it off a low mileage wreck so you can at least throw the car back together?

When mine went out, I replaced the whole tranny with one from a wreck.Probably more than you want to spend and I don't know if it even includes the part you need, but autozone lists a 5 speed vibe tranny rebuild kithttp://www.autozone.com/R,APP1...l.htm

Wow that stinks... Like Joatman did in a way, you could not get a re-man tranny and just remove and replace yours? That way the re-man place deals with the bearing issue. That bearing may be obsolete but obviously the entire trans is not so going down to the bearing level part detail may not be the best thing rather then just getting another trans. There has to be a substitute bearing that is being used now for these trans, issue is finding that sub if you want just the bearing. Is the car at a GM dealer and has the GM dealer called GM technical assistance and asked? If you car is not at a local GM dealer then this may be why you are having trouble in finding the bearing on your own. I guarantee the GM dealer would know what to do if their techs were rebuilding that trans and not let the car sit apart for 2 weeks, or a dealer would just get a re-man trans and R&R it. Have you checked transmission parts places? Not GM dealers but locals...

Thanks so much for the AutoZone link..... That is very well what I may have to do unfortunately! I checked junkyards and online junkyards, etc. They have a couple I am going to call about today. Thanks so much for helpfullness! Hopefully the Vibe will be up and running soon!
