RDS radio problem?

Post by pficarel »

Hi, I bought a 2009 Vibe and love it. For the first couple of months I would get the song, artist and call letters for some FM radio stations I listen too. Now, out of nowhere, none of this stuff will show up on the radio display. I am assuming this is the RDS function of the radio and works independent of OnStar and XM. I did go into the MENU and made sure the Auto Text was ON, but it still doesn't work. Could something have happened to the antenna? I did take it on a long trip a few weeks back, could that have anything to do with it? (I am sure it doesn't, but I am grasping at anything) Do I have some other radio setting wrong?Much appreciated.

It could also be an issue with the station.I have noticed around here that sometimes the stations dont always show everything throughout the day.

RDS is one of those things that barely caught on. Very few stations support it, and many who do probably won't bother to fix the equipment if it stops working. Its possible the stations simply aren't broadcasting the info anymore. But yes, RDS is completely independent of XM or OnStar.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

Ditto what raging says... RDS support is flaky at best, and never consistent...

Well it seemed like a kinda cool idea while it worked. Just still weird how out of nowhere it stopped working. Could proximity to the radio station matter?

Could proximity to the radio station matter?Yes it does. I find that when I get far enough away from the transmitter the RDS info is lost even though the station is still clear.
