Alpine HU and iPod

Post by RanKether »

Hi All,I'm a big time iPod fan and, now that I have my Vibe, a big time Vibe fan. I want too hook up my iPod directly to my car stereo via a new Head Unit and I've been eyeballing the Alpine IDA-X001, which has a true LCD and a scroll-wheel like knob just like the iPod's. I love it except for one thing-- it's blue and the Vibe's dashboard lighting scheme is all red. Does anybody have an iPod HU that matches the Vibe's color-scheme yet still has good iPod integration? Or perhaps there's a way to change the Vibe's dashboard light color? Or perhaps a way to change the HU's LED color? Thanks!

Some of the Sony HU's have red in them, but I would stay away from Sony car audio. Rockford Fosgate has some red color schemes too. My favorite are the Eclipse. Alot of the Eclipse decks will have 3-5 different colors schemes in them, including red.

A custom installer could make the alpine match by resoldering new leds in the face for the buttons, if you really like the alpine.Aron
Vibe is gone and will be missed as I've gone country style

THe UK versions of Alpine decks have switchable colour schemes. I realised that after I saw my deck on a UK sound forum. You could try to order it through ebay or a UK seller that ships to where you are. Unfortunately I'm stuck with blue too.

Unfortunately mine was stolen out of my car about a year ago and the updated model the insurance company gave me as a replacement doesn't have the option to change the color scheme.

As an Addendum, I finally bought the Alpine iDA-X001 since it went on sale 130 bucks off the list price. Got it installed and found out rather pleasantly that it DOES support two LED Colors-- Blue and Red. The 2" LCD also supports a red colored background wallpaper, so everything matches up VERY nicely with the rest of the Vibe. Couldn't be happier-- browsing my iPod in traffic is now very nice.
