I got tired of it being such a pain in the (removed) to clean my filter so I decided to save myself some money and craft my own short ram instead of buying another new one. All I did was cut my Cosmo CAI, and now I have a brand new short ram! Hurray!
Nice job! I did the same thing when my AEM intake for my Civic started to wear thru, the hole in my fender started cutting the tube, so I said screw it and made it into a SRI.
I don't think shortening the tube will make any difference on the CEL issue. A Cosmo CAI does not cause a CEL there is some other issue that you're missing. Personally I would never cut a CAI into a short ram. I live on a dirt road and still only need to clean mine once a year. To me it's well worth the trouble.
I actually like the short ram better performance wise as well. I mean c'mon, a full CAI will give you 2 or 3 more hp, but high up in the rpm. A short ram gives you a little less power, but it gives it to you in a more useable rpm range. I had a Cosmo short ram before I moved to the CAI, and I have always missed it.
ha! nice set up andrew!you might have to get used to a little more noise coming through the engine bay, but, like you said the power is in a more usable range.would be nice to have an slp ram air hood...

Any thoughts?Yes it will.A few guys around here have switched for that same reason.Looks good Andrew,I like my short ram better now, much easier to clean.

And besides, I cant hear it at all because my exhaust drowns it out.

Toasted - There is a good chance that it may get rid of the CEL. I cant remember how long you had your CAI before you got the CEL.Kevera and Keithvibe are correct on the CEL with the CAI for a 05 + DBW. I had a CAI for a year and a half and then I started getting the CEL of running too lean. I bought a SR and have not had a problem with it for a couple months now.
Guess I will give it a shot and hack off my CAI as well... will have to see what happens. As far as how long I had my CAI on before I got a CEL... about 2 days. It was for running too lean.Where did you chop off the CAI, any pointers?
