Hey guys/gals, I own a 2003 AWD vibe and love the car, however my fuel economy isn't great, i have posted on this already, but does anyone know what they were rated at when new? the reason I ask is because I was at the Pontiac Dealership yesterday and sized up the new Vibe, and i think it was rated at 29mpg/ city and 39 highway, and that's on the GT with the larger 2.4 motor (not AWD obviously) and i know we wont get that in real life driving but that's way, way, way better then what I get. are these numbers close to correct? Finally i have a chance to trade her in at 11000 CAD dollars on a new one and it will only cost me a couple of hundred bux more a month, Im seriously thinking on doing it. the new car has so many more options and a bigger engine, more power, just sounds like a good deal to me. What do you guys think???????
03-06 awd vibes were rated for 26city 31highway. With a NECK snapping 118hp HAHAHAthe new 09's have "real life" estimates which make it lower than that. i think they are estimated at 20city 26highway but some have already hit well in to the 30ties with the new 09's

Thanks, it never use to look that way, It was silver, i painted it, tinted windows, added black wheels and spoiler and put stripes on her to change the look, i love the car but on dirt roads it's wicked bad on gas, it's so underpowered on the dirt road im always putting it to the floor to get it to move, im hoping the 09 with more power will actually be better for me on this type of driving. and she's 6 years old now, time for a new one.
i'm with kevera, i dont remember seeing pics of your vibe before, looks goodaccording to pontiac's site, the 09 GT is rated 21mpg city and 29 mpg highway. values in US units (just making sure we're on the same page, since you listed mpg in OP but also used CAD $)
Sort of in the same boat as you. Thinking of trading my 03 AWD for an 09 GT. Reports on the fuel economy have been very positive... To the point I wonder if they are accurate.... but assuming they are, I am hoping to see a slight improvement in mileage. I usually get 24-27 in the warmer months, low 20s in the colder months. I've been waiting for an incentive to come along, but I guess that isn't gonna be happening....

Our 09 GT was rated at 26/31. Our very first tank of gas we did about 60% highway and 40% city and netted about 27-28 mpg. This is also the first manual I've owned in about 6 years, so Im sure once I relearn how to drive it properly,, 30 mph will be easy in mixed driving conditions

Quote, originally posted by IBx1 »Um, the 2.4 FWD has 20/26 ratings, while the 1.8 gets 26/32. I don't know where you heard 29/39 from, but wouldn't that be great!? Haha, imagine...Actually, it's the AWD not the FWD that has 20/26 ratings on the 09s. The 2.4 in the GT or upgraded base is 21/28 manual, 21/29 auto.

if any of you are curious about how the 2008 mpg ratings compare to the older ratings, then just go to fueleconomy.gov They have taken all the old ratings and estimated what they would be by the new rating standards. So the 2007 vibe was rated at 30/36 for a manual but by todays standards that would theoretically adjust to 26/33 So the new 1.8 is not that far off at 26/32I think they rated the old AWD 2005 vibe at 20/29 on that site
wo with the different ways of rating, im hoping that the new 2.4 manual will be better in real world economy then my awd 1.8 (I think it will have to be)
