This may be a stupid question....

Post by qtmm2 »

Hi everyone! I am very happy to join this exciting website! I have been reading the forums and browsing around for a couple of weeks now, but i just joined today. I am definately planning on purchasing a Vibe GT and have been doing A LOT of research... including reading all of your comments... Thanks Anyway, I need to ask a question that may be a little stupid, but please bear with me. I realize there is a pretty significant wait time if you are ordering from the factory, but how does it all work with the dealership. IOW, do you put a full downpayment right when you order... or....? I also read someone mentioned a $500 rebate? I don't want to talk to the dealership until i am ready to buy... i thought i would ask you guys first, since you have the experience, unfortunately! THANKS!!!

I think you can put down a deposit or something. I don't think there are any rebates for the vibe yet cause it's so new, at least that's what my dealer told me.

I bought my Vibe a little over a week ago, GM Rebate $1000 cash back and finance with a local bank for 5.9%.

I think it depends on the dealer. We ordered our 97 Z-24 and that dealer required $50, our 01 Stratus R/T required $1000 (we must have looked skummy that night) (I think the dealer was worried he'd sit on a 5 speed manual and not be able to sell it if we backed out. They screwed up the order with a wrong interior color, so I made them order me another one. The first one sold w/in 1 week), and $0.00 down with the Vibe order. I ordered mine on 7-1-02, and Pontiac announced a $500 rebate a day or two later, then just recently upped it to $1000.00 IF YOU TAKE DELIVERY BEFORE 9-3-02 If you order one now, it won't be in till after 9-3, so you'd be gambling if they will offer a rebate after then. (who knows, it may be even larger after 9-3) The rebate applies when the deal is closed, not when you order it.If you buy one off a lot right now, there'd be a $1000 rebate. The dealer would be able to search other dealer's inventories for you also.Good luck.Carl

My dealer was offering a $500 rebate, but that can be pretty meaningless. Depending upon the availability in your area, you should be able to negotiate a price below retail. Read a couple of books on how to negotiate a car deal- it's saved me thousands on the last 2 cars I've bought- including my new Vibe- and even better I don't feel like I was tricked or used! Only on the most sought-after cars do you need to pay sticker price (like the Mazda Miata when it first came out). I don't think the Vibe is in that category yet or I wouldn't have gotten such a good deal. This may not hold true when you order a car, but one book I read said there's no difference. Best of luck, in any case!

I am going to be ordering my Vibe GT in October. My dealer said that all I have to put down is a $100 deposit, then they can order it. I think the reason they require so little is because they could turn around and sell that car to anyone since it is in such high demand. As far as rebates go, they did have a $500 rebate as previously mentioned by masonjl and they are giving $1000 right now. But that would not apply to a special order. You will get whatever rebates are being offered at the time of delivery. Believe me, I know where you are coming from. I have been interested in this car since its release in late January/early February and researching everything heavily since May. If you have any other questions, let me know. Hope this helps.

When I ordered my vibe early february there were no rebates whatsoever. When I recieved it in May there was a rebate on the Moon and Tunes package I think maybe 500 dollars. But recently I believe that most dealerships are giving 1000 cash back.
