How much can the stock electrical system take...

Post by TinleyJake »

I'm looking to include a couple of amplifiers in my new system I'm planning for my 2008 Vibe. How much can the 80 amp stock charging system take without upgrades?I was planning on using an Alpine PDX-4.100 to run my components active and a PDX-1.600 for a single 10" sub in a sealed enclosure. Since these are class D amps, they should not impact the charging system too much.My nephew wants to sell me two Rockford Fosgate "25 to Life" Punch 45's and one Punch 75 nearly brand new cheap. The Punch 45's conservatively rated at 22.5 x 2 channels but shows on their birth sheets to be 80 x 2. The Punch 75 shows 450 watts mono.2 questions: Does anyone know if these are decent to good amps and will these be too much for the stock electrical? Thanks for any information you may have.

Dude, listen, I am running a 2000 watt amp, and only my high beams dim a little. So you are fine. Don't think your going over 2000 watts... oh and I have an 05

I would do the PDX over the RF, but the 25 to Life amps are GREAT... (I have the 25TL Power 1000 limited 5ch) I ran 1400+w in my subaru with a 65a hot rated alt for YEARS without issue.. a good idea would be to upgrade the "Big 3" grounds though... Look in my sig to some links for MUCH MUCH more install info, if you need it..

Hey there, I've got two alpine amps each rated more than 400watts RMS running everything. I did add a cap because I noticed my lights dimmed significantly when cranked. PS I also upgraded the battery.

thats weird bc im running two 600W max 10" subs off a 425W amp and everything dims out! part of it is bc i have the original battery(03) but even with a new battery i think it would still dim out

The ground are the single most important thing in a car audio system... Everything passes through them, power wise. Not all grounds are the same either, some have better contact with the chassis, some have more noise inherent from parts like the fuel pump and whatnot... Cap, caps are a band-aid to a weak electrical system, they typically filter out the sags and spikes, but unless you have a 15 farad monster, a smallish 1-2 farad cap spends more time discharged than charged...

Ya I have a grounding kit too and voltage stabilizer. The Cap though works great, then again I don't go around cranked all the time and only turn it up when some ricer pulls up with his factory stereo screaming.

Also, when you installed the ground kit, did you sand away the paint where it attached to the body?
