Where have you had the best experience, online or local, of buying tires and wheels? I need some for my '86.5 Nissan Pickup, and http://www.tirerack.com doesn't carry any my size!Add your own choice if your place isn't already listed. Thanks,KSNeptune
I called a couple of places for the tires and wheels I want and Discount Tire had everyone beat. The store I called even had a lower price than their website tires.com did.

Thanks, Triton. I finally did get some wheels/tires for my truck, but at a local Peerless tire. Not a big variety of wheels to choose from, and I almost regret getting the ones I did. But I'll add some fender flares, touch up some rust spots, and my truck will look better than new.Still, it's nice to know all the sources. Buying wheels is a little crazy these days, but for my old truck it had to be done.KSNeptune.
I'm a big fan of Costco - the one here in Harrisburg has new equipment, its clean, and the crew is well trained. I've bought two sets of tires there and they did a great job - they even used a torque wrench instead the ol' impact wrench. But you gotta watch the discount places - sometimes they are full of the latest shipment of illegal aliens...I don't want some untrained screw-ball jacking with my wheels and tires.

I said earlier that I was having regrets about the new tires I'd gotten. It turns out the tire dealer gave me a size I hadn't asked for. So yesterday he replaced 205/55 16s with the 215/60 16s I had wanted in the first place. The truck looks much better, rides much smoother, and sounds quieter going down the road.My point? It pays to complain if you aren't satisfied. The dealer was very nice when I pointed out "his honest mistake", and didn't charge me for anything other than the difference in tire cost as new.KSNeptune
While searching on local stores and internet, found nice place for us in Canada to buy wheels/tires. http://www.tiretrends.com Got my mags Montegi Racing MR8 on friday. Now waiting for summer!!!

No, I meant that it could be looked at as you are telling people where to go if they need a fix (and I don't mean an automotive fix). I was j/k anyway.

tirerack.com have always had the best deals on what i have wanted but if it were the other way round and it was discounttire.com then i would definately buy from them....i told tirerack that they should offer some kind of loyal customer discount.....if they did that then i wouldnt stray!

Quote, originally posted by ragingfish »Does this "road hazard" plan cover if you scrape against a curb and destroy your sidewall?Yep. I blew out a tire hitting a curb and Discount Tire replaced the tire for free.I love that I have free rotations every 6,000 miles, too. We're on our third set of tires (from various cars) and I'm very pleased. I will, in all likelihood, buy my new wheels from them as well (about a week).
costco is where i bought my last few sets they have good deals on their "generic" tires which are just made by goodyear and have kirkland stamped on them

A couple years ago I had a low speed steering wobble on my PT. Took it to Discount Tire. They put it on some machines to check it out - explained to me the reason, did a couple of things to minimize the wobble, and assured me it was not a safety hazard. NO CHARGE. I left $20 to buy pizza for the crew.

just bought some winter tires for the LGT from Tire Rack on tuesday, shipped out of Indiana same day and arrived at the dealership in Anchorage yesterday! wow! even with the shipping, it was a good $150 LESS than the cheapest place here locally!
Discount has the best service.Tirerack.com has some of the best prices, but Discount Tire will match competitor pricing for tires they carry. I found tirerack.com had the tires I wanted cheaper than Discount. I printed out the same tire pricing from tirerack and took it to Discount. They matched the price from tirerack.com. They have to call and finding out shipping cost because they will only match the price with shipping cost included. I still save $40 a tire including the shipping cost included.
I went to Discoutntires.com and thumbed through their site. It was rather cool and had some good prices but there were some conflicting issues I ran into. They werent exactly clear on which rims would fit my car. If I used their flashmedia showroom thing to see what rims would look like on my car, some of the rims they had to show for the Vibe werent on the list if you just did a search on "Base Vibe XX" Guess I just need to call them up and see what will work.

There aren't any "Discount Tires" in Sacramento metro. I've had exceptionally good service/prices from "Americas Tire Company". I can't add them to the list of places to vote on though
My new favorite place is Craigslist. Just got an almost new set of 4 tires for only $90. Cost more to get them mounted and balanced. lol.http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=25281

Quote »There aren't any "Discount Tires" in Sacramento metro. I've had exceptionally good service/prices from "Americas Tire Company".These are the same company under two different names. They list both names on their website. I agree with the numerous other comments already commending them on their service. When one of our Vibes picked up a nail they repaired the tire free of charge even though it hadn't been purchased there (was still original equipment). They also did an excellent job balancing the tires on my Nova/Corolla that had always had vibration issues with tires purchased elsewhere. And they didn't over-torque the lug nuts which had also been a problem on that vehicle at other tire stores.
well considering i've had my only set of tires bought at one place..which i got a really good deal on..i'd say them..place called MegaWheels in Mississauga
i ordered some tires from discount/america's tire, and they were great to work with. i've done business with them in the past with other vehicles, and like other people said, they won't be beat. i live a couple hours away from LA and didn't think they'd match a price i found from out there, but all they wanted was a printout from the site that i found. i took it in, and even though the guy was surprised at the price i found, he didn't hesitate to match the price. he only asked if he could keep the printout. discount/america's tire is also very helpful with repairing tires that weren't purchased through their company. like prathman said, they fixed my tire that i got from a competing store for free. i also had another set of tires that were severely damaged from a tow truck towing my caddy that i had covered under the road hazard warranty(no, i wasn't parked illegally, it's a long story). they didn't stock the tires, but had em in 1 or 2 days. i don't think i'll do business with any other company. i'm very happy with embtw, the tires i got were 215/45/17 nitto neo-gen. when i ordered em on monday 05/14/2007, the guy said that the tires will be there by friday 5/18. i called to see if they were in, and the guy said their computer shows they won't be there til 5/20, but apologized for the delay twice. i love this company

Either Discount Tire Direct (.com) or TireRack.com for me.... Last set i bought were from DTD... they were 70$ cheaper than TR (free shipping from DTD) And i even tried getting our discount from our TR guy on my Subaru Site NASIOC.com (you know the one LGT ) As for wheels, i've never bought any for my Subaru, the stockers are 16lbs each and i would have to pay some serious $$$ to get lighter... going heavier is just rediculus... I got a set from TR for my VW years ago, great service.... Hard to say, vut, DTD wins for tires ATM...
Check out http://www.vulcantire.com I'm ordering Mastercraft tires from there. They were on my Vibe when I got it and every mechanic has commented on how well they still look.
My new favorite place for tires is Mills Fleet Farm when they are unloading their discontinued tire models. Got a set of 4 all-season, 40,000 mile, Bridgestone Turanza LS-V tires for only $240 installed. Not the best tire but very worth the money. I'll have to check there again in a few years when I an ready for another set.

America's Tire is Discount Tire. I worked for Discount Tire for many years. They couldn't use the Discount Tire name when they expanded into Oregon and Some areas of California due to another tire shop using the Discount Tire name. If you notice the logo is the same lettering type. I've always used Discount Tire and not because some of my old friends still work there and I get a better discount.

i just bought my first vibe, and it has the factory wheels, but im looking to get something a little sportier... possible 19''?im not sure, and im kinda new to all this.. any recommendations? what looks good, and works without having to do alot of additional work on the car.. best place to purchase?thanks
In the past I have used the local America Car Care center. I bought some of their branded 14" tires for my Cavalier. They worked OK and the service was good.I just bought a 09 Pontiac Vibe with upgraded wheels and 215/45R17 Goodyear Tires. I already had to replace one blown tire with a Falken ZE329 from Big O (was on vacation, didn't have much choice). The price on this tire astounded me.I found some better price on Tirerack and Discount Tire sites; the latter is not local though
