UN pully + Supercharger?

Post by Lancer »

What would the Unorthodox pully do to the super charger? Would it increase the boost at all? Just trying to get a plan together for when the S/C does come out.

Underdrive pulleys make horsepower by slowing down the accessories making them easier to turn.If you add a supercharger, the underdriver pulleys would slow down the supercharger creating less boost and less horsepower improvement.

Are adding pullies to a GT worth it? What do you think Scott?

quote:Are adding pullies to a GT worth it? What do you think Scott?good question. I am seriously considering making that my next mod. I've never read that they slow down the accessories. I always thought they just reduced weight, making them take less draw from the engine to turn.

Being very interested in how they work, I looked up some info from AEM. Here is a link to their page for the pulleys. You can read up on them there. http://www.aempower.com/product_pulley.asp

I have spoken to a Pontiac contact I have and was told if you could have a aftermarket pulley made that would speed up the Supercharger, this would in turn make the engine produce more HP. You'd need a smaller diameter size pulley installed on the supercharger which would make the unit spin faster creating more PSI. The 1ZZ-FE can handle 10 PSI and the computer that will be installed with the Supercharger will be able to adjust itself for the higher amount of PSI being generated. The stock PSI will be 7.5 PSI.The top PSI I'd run is 12. It should be able to handle this. I wouldn't go any higher. I was told the computer will be able to adjust to just about any PSI though.

Not sure what it'll do the the old warrenty (but its easliy removed, and you can erase stored codes b4 any dealer maintinace)hummmm

Here's a few sites that list pulleys for the 3800 SC. There's one that has some dyno results with up to ~20 psi!http://www.pfyc.com/store/merchant.mv?S ... mance.com/

Now I'm leaning more towards the turbo kit. I think the main question I have to keep me with the S/C is, besides using a smaller pully can you tune a S/C to produce more of a boost (like 10-12 psi) ? Or would I have to use nitrous in addition to get my car over 200hp?

If you were to increase the boost from 7.5 to say 10 PSI, how would that effect the automatic transmission? Is it beefy enough to handle the extra boost?
