How much gap is ok for fuel injectors.

Post by Lancer »

Everyone knows I got a new engine and some goodies for it installed. One of the things is some bigger fuel injectors from MWR. Got them on sale and they're always good service to me. My mechanic went to install them and was following MWR's instructions to use the stock lower rubber boot or o-ring, but found that the stock rubber boot has what we both thought was a big gap. We both know that it seals from the flat serface and not from the side. but this gap just doesn't look right.I got a picture of it but somethings wrong with this site, it wont let me attach it. And what happend to my sig pics?I e-mailed MWR and they just repeated what the instructions said and that it's ok to have a gap.

Without a pic it's hard to tell. I would try one and see if it leaks fuel under pressure. I had a kinked o-ring on my truck and it leaked enough fuel to smell it and if you looked closely you could see the leak. The other alternative is to replace all the o-rings to close the gap. They're dirt cheap. Some parts stores have a selection of o-rings. Just bring an injector with you and test fit them until you find the size you need.

Looks like the images in you signature are http://memimage.cardomain.net/...5.jpg and http://memimage.cardomain.net/...4.jpgMy computer can't find the host memimage.cardomain.net. It looks to me like the URLs are supposed to be memimage.cardomain.com.If I take your URLs and replace .net with .com I get http://memimage.cardomain.com/...5.jpg and http://memimage.cardomain.com/...4.jpgor and THe most common cause for not being able to upload an attachment to genvibe is that the file size is too big. The form says "You may attach a file to this post. The file cannot be larger than 2000000 bytes." but in reality it throws away anthing bigger than about 1,000,000 bytes. So maybe the picture was too big. What's the file size of the picture you are ttrying to upload?

Thanks for the signature fix, not sure how that happened. I had it just fine for over a year now. The file attachment thing still wont work, the picture is only 1.07mb.Went to Autozone to try to get some boots that fit better. Of course they didn't have anything for a 1zz engine. But one of the techs there looked at the injector and stock boot and said it should be fine. So I'll install them tomarrow (it's pret

Well, they're in! Took about an hour cuz I had to change the wires and the plugs. I let it run for awhile, turned it off (no leaking!) then went for a couple short drives. On the way home from the last one I almost floored it, about 85%. The tires had a hard time keeping traction! Then it started bouncing off the rev limiter and wouldn't shift into second until I let off a bit. I hate it when it does that! I hope that can be fixed with the tune. Otherwise I have to battle with the dealership to reflash my ecu.
