Deck install

Post by drews vibe »

Hey guys I just picked up an after market deck for my 2005 vibe....do I need any special connecting adapter other than the standard wiring harness. Is anything other than the radio tied into the factory harness? Also how hard is it to remove the factory deck?I just have the base deck no monsoon setup.

more than likely you will need s kit, I know you can get kit for wiring and faceplate from Crutchfields, not sure about other sources for them. I'm sure SOMEONE will have a site or two

Yes, your tutorial helped out a lot, 'specially removing the dash cover. My sons chipped in and got me a Sony CDX-GT420U for Father's Day, with USB, aux, mp3... ... just the stock speakers, no sub - as long as I can hear it My one son did the wiring harness, I put together the dash kit and the whole thing installed and works very well.

Maybe it will. I've been wrong before. The Vibe HU was the only install I haven't done in my garage, so I'm not sure.

hmm well it seems to be the same deck as my sunfire...but after reading sublimes extensive how-to on a deck install i would need one cause apparently the stock one is smaller then normal, right now i only listen to the radio cause i dont got that many cd's and now that i have my mp3 player i probably will never listen to the radio..

if you have an ipod and your deck supports it, i really recommend getting this cable that allows you to use the dock port instead of using the headphone jack. i prefer to use the HU's controls to navigate through the ipod over the spin wheel. plus if you are using the headphone jack, you might end up accidentally turning up the volume on the ipod thereby making the music get too loud for your tastes, or blow out a speaker.http://www.putfile.com/pic/6597619
None. Vibe is gone.

Looks great man, congratz and a great project for you and the kids..!!! The only thing I don't like about the dash kit, is the little pocket is so little, I can't even get my fingers all the way to the back of it...DOH...

Thanks, at least with the pocket I may be able to keep track of the remote and a USB key or two.Next project has to be an additional 12v outlet or two

Quick Question:I know that the new dask kit is made to have the little "pocket" in it, but here is an odd question:Can I install the project kit upside-down so that the receiver is on the bottom and the pocket is on top?I ask this cause im looking at getting a receiver that has a screen on it. Here is a picture of the unit from crutchfield.http://www.crutchfield.com/App...=5684The reason for this is I also plan on getting the ProClip system for my Treo and it mounts between the air vent and the hazard button. With the screen, that might get in the way. With moving the receiver to the bottom of the kit, that may give me enough room to have the Treo mounted there and the screen out.Or if anyone has any other mounting suggestions for my phone, I would be happy to hear it.Thanks in advance.

If I remember correctly, the side pieces of the dash insert only fit the front bit one way (right side up) and the mounting screw tabs were angled to align that way. Of course I may be wrong.

Much depends on the dash kit, some may be able to, the one I got from Metra products (in my install tutorial) can't... Metra isn't the only ones that make dash kits though...
