Scary story everyone, this happened last Tue Jun 10th, around 6:00pm. It was clear, sunny and dry here in Windsor ON. 'Frost' just had a nice drive thru carwash and hand towel dried, an hour before, she sparkled in the sun and had shiny black tires.'Frost' was our beautiful little '06 Vibe. (White, Moonroof/Monsoon stereo)I had my 7 week old son 'Rowan' in his rear facing car seat, and my wife next to him in the back seat.I was stopped at a light on Riverside Dr. facing the Renaissance centre across the river in Detroit. The light turned green, I pulled into the intersection and started to turn left.A city bus was coming straight for my door. I gave 'Frost' all the gas she had and we moved another 6 feet out of the way. There was a sickening crunch and the squeal of tires. The impact was centred over the rear tire and spun us around 180deg. The engine didn't stall and I slowly reversed 'Frost' a few car lengths to get out of the way of traffic. There was a crunchy grinding sound as we moved backwards. Then I gently shut the engine down for the last time. By then, my child was screaming, and my wife was gasping for air (she had a c-section 7 weeks ago, and had the wind knocked out of her). We were all taken to the hospital and released 6 hrs later, with bumps, bruises, seat belt rash, and aching all over. Rowan escaped without a scratch. Finally, today an adjuster told me it was a total write off. Although, I don't think she could ever be completely fixed after something like that.I'm so happy we're alive and recovering.I'm sad and miss our vibe. It saved us.Thank you 'Frost'

Ouch. I hope all is well.My Vibe was hit as well, a week and a half ago. I'd almost think Vibes were being targeted

I also can hear the valve clicking as it operates. Sorta like a watch ticking at the base of my skull.Errie thing is that a co-worker can hear it when we're driving sometimes. I'm sure someone on a plane will complain at some point in the future. "Hey, this guy is ticking! Get him off the plane!"As for my Vibe, the dealership assessed the damaged and thought it was repairable. My insurance company wanted a second opinion and sent an independant appraiser who agreed it was repairable, but he thinks it can be done for less.

oh my. as soon as i saw about an infant in the car i also made fudge.glad to hear all are ok. cars can be replaced, family can't. i hope this never happens to you again.
Whew, everyone made it without a scratch... what a blessing... As Moongdss said so eloquently stated, an honorable death, a car sacrificing itself to protect it's occupants...
I'm so sorry to hear that, but relieved to hear that your baby didn't get hurt. I hope you and your wife get better soon, and the city buys you a new Vibe!

Hey Everyone! Thanks a bunch for your kind wishes. We're all feeling way better. Still a little anxious whenever I'm turning left at an intersection. Neck and back are still a little stiff and sore. Wife and baby are also doing fine. The G5 from the rental agency isn't too bad, but I wouldn't buy one.Good news from Insurance. They agreed to cover the full cost of Frost when she was new. MAKE SURE ALL YOUR NEW CARS HAVE A "WAIVER OF DEPRECIATION"!I didn't know I had it, but it came in handy. So, basically, they will give you a cheque for the cost of your vibe the day you bought it. It usually only lasts 2 years. We're getting $26,259.90. Blue book was only $17,000, which is what I would have gotten if I didn't have the waiver! This was our price before trade-in and GM Visa Points. We were going on 2 years this Aug.A little bit of a pain in the (removed) is the cheque won't arrive 3-5 days...The rental is only covered till Jul 2nd.We have Canada day on Jul 1st, which doesn't count as a business day!Keep safe everyone!Nelson
