Hello everyone, Had taken the vibe for recall appointment regarding the front windows. The dealer suggested that since i have clocked 50,000km i need to get a 'Tune up ' service done which is going to cost CAD $ 340 approx. . It will include fuel injector cleaning , engine bay shampooing , valve adjustment and filter change . I looked up the owners manual and there is no such thing mentioned under the scheduled maintainence section. I have already changed the engine air filter at 35,000 Km and recently inspected it and it looks clean. I had flushed and replaced the coolant last year . And have been doing regular oil changes. Do i need to get this tune up done ? Or is the dealer trying to con me ? In the manual there is no mention if such tune up ?
I give that "suggested" tune up a NO. Fuel injector cleaner? bah most fuel these days has it in, or just get a bottle of tecron or another brand (forgot the one i use). Engine wash? you could do that yourself but I never have. valve adjustment I am pretty sure you do not need that at all unless your car is running bad. filter change is a joke, you've already done that. Keep up your normal maintance you currently are doing and skip that dealer one!
I asked my Honda dealer about the valve clearance check on my motorcycle... Their answer:Well, it's recommended at 16K miles...but....1. Is the engine sounding any different like the valves need adjustment? (no) then don't worry.2. You can do it yourself if you have a little bit of knowledge how to do so... (I told him I had the service manual and have preformed all the other "scheduled maintenance")So I say, unless your engine is making a weird noise, the valve adjustment sounds bogus... and the other stuff... You've already done it.
That sounds like as big a rip-off as the 6-month inspection that mine recommends. Don't bother. I think the emissions (fuel injectors fuel systems, etc) is listed in the manual for 30,000 km. Don't know why they'd do it again at 50k...

Other then that I would probably change out your PCV too. The other stuff is dealer upsell.
Quote, originally posted by dennisdrive »What is 'PCV' and how do we change it ? I never heard abt that ? PCV stand for Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve. It is a spring loaded valve. It resides under the plastic engine cover, has rubber hose going to it and threads into the engine. If plugged up from oil, it cannot release gases, then you can slowly blow out seals and cause leaks. Many engines have one...I have the part number for a non GT engine at home if you need it and I can get you the service manual procedure to replace if you want to do it on your own. I think it was under $10 for the part.
I changed the PCV valve as per the instructions . In process broke one of the black plastic fastners but managed to stick the parts together using crazy glue. However one of the metal screw in the front {which hold the engine cover } while tightening became a bit free . Upon inspection the thread on the screw had couple of metal rings ....looks as if the engine bay area into which the screw goes in got worn out . For time being i put a little bit of paper and rescrewed it . Hopefully it hold. Any suggestions as what needs to be done ? Thanks. BTW the PCV valve was kind of difficult to take out since i didnt have the correct spanner and was using an adjustable spanner.
