gas cap

Post by kunkstyle »

Anybody have a locking gas cap for their vibe? Are they universal? Or are threads/pitches different between makes and models?Any problems with CEL's? (I would assume that an aftermarket cap would be suitable for the vacuum test on startup.)

I have a locking gas cap.I bought it from a car parts store. All you need to do is ask that you need a locking gas cap for your year, make and model. No issues at all. I have had it 2-3 years now.

I've always kept them with my car keys. In which case if I lose them I'm in a whole other debaucle. Wonder if I can retrofit the one I've got on the 911 onto the vibe? It's neat. A little pin that locks the fuel door when the car doors lock.

What sucks though, on cars like these with the remote fuel doors, the crooks are gonna have to break other stuff prying the door open so they can get to your locked cap! Lots of opportunity for them to damage things.

I think that the inside fuel door release on the Vibe is sufficient to deter gas thieves - if you keep your car locked. They will just move on to the next car that is an easier target.

Or just drill through the gas tank like they're doing these days. lol! It really wouldn't make much sense to go through all the trouble of stealing gas out of small cars though, so the small size of the tank could also be a good way to deter thieves. Why bother getting 10 gallons out of a small car when they can get 30 out of a huge SUV?

Doh!I was hoping to get home and edit my post before anybody mentioned the fuel door release. Forgot about that little detail. I'll hold off on the locking cap for now.Quote, originally posted by ColonelPanic »It really wouldn't make much sense to go through all the trouble of stealing gas out of small cars though, so the small size of the tank could also be a good way to deter thieves. Chances are that small sport crossover combo hatchback wagon (refer to the wagon thread...) is not driven by a 300 pound steroid monkey, as is the case with a lot of souped up trucks around these parts That's a little tounge in cheek, btw. Not to offend anybody with a truck. Also, how many people know the fuel capacity of vehicles they don't own? Volkswagens are small, and they have huge capacities. Who's to say that the vibes aren't the same. I doubt those siphoning gas are the types to do research.
