I would have to say 35%...I have 35 up front and 20% on the back... I like the 20% on the back, but it is a little hard to see out of at night... rarely do I need to roll down my windows to see... usually the only time I need to do that is in my dark alley and when it's raining... otherwise... no problem.
I used to install window tint (Ohio). The safest, legally is 50% for the front doors, 35% for the rear for most states. Although with a grey or tan interior it may be possible to use 35% in the front 20% in the rear and get away with it. My opinion, 35% all the way around, or 20% on all rear glass and 35% or 50% on the front doors. It all depends on how you drive and the attention by law enforcement and the legal limits in your area.

I'd say 35%. My first 2 cars were 20% and pulling on to some country roads at night, I would have to roll down the windows to see if anything was coming.
I got 35% and the guys at my shop said 30% was the legal limit in MD. With the factory tint and the 35% over it, I should measure out around 32%. They said a douchbag cop would give me a hard time, but most wouldn't. I have yet to do anything to warrant getting pulled over for it to ever become an issue.Of course, two blocks away from my house I got popped in the boyfriend's zippy Honda doing 41 in a 30. *&@(*&%$@ I hadn't even REALLY gotten around to speeding yet! They should've waited until I got to the highway!! But he didn't have tint, and the cop actually felt bad giving me the ticket, and apologized to me aftert the courtdate. But back to the tint.... sometimes, in rural areas after dark, if I'm backing up, I need to roll down my windows and use my side mirrors to see... but with adequate street lighting it's never a problem. other than that, the tint has been wonderful.Just some stats... I am so lily-freakin'-white I burn just thinking about the sun. Tint has helped me cut back on sunblock for just driving to work. Lately we've had a 105 degree heat index.... the tint has kept the car pretty darned comfortable. With my 20% tint strip on the windshield, no one can see my scangauge mounted on my mirror.

Um, yea...I'm quite aware of the heat wave...I work at BWI and have been dying lately. The guys at DNR Tinting told me 35 was the limit, but if you say 30 then that's good enough for me. I had 20 on my last car for 7 years and never got stopped, and I did have to occasionally roll down the window and night...especially when it was raining.
just out of curiousity, what have you all paid for your tint? Thinking 35% all the way around, to cool the car off a bit and shade the glare in our daughter's eyes when she's strapped in. Never tinted before, I have no idea what a reasonable cost is.

I paid $180. They had 3 choices...house brand, Solarshield and 3M. Each was like $20 more than the previous. $180 was the cheapest and all shades were the same price.Of course you could just buy the pre-cut tint on ebay for $50.
I would say no darker than 35% to see well at night. Regardless, you need to check to find out what is legal in your state. I believe in SC it is 27% all around. In FL 28 front and 15 rear is as dark as you can legally do. However, those are not available, so really it's 35 front.

I've had 20% tint on all my vehicles, including my Vibe, and have never been pulled over for my tint being too dark. Of course I've been pulled over for other things! Just make sure to check your local laws and maybe talk to a few policemen and get their take on tint. I know that some shops won't tint past a certain percentage but if they do, you assume all responsibility and they may charge a little extra for this service. Good luck!
