The REAL way to restore headlights.

Post by ProtonXX »

I TRIED THE HEADLIGHT RESTORE KITS & THEY ARE GARBAGE. THE RUINED MY LIGHTS & MADE THEM WORST.Then I realized I can use clear coat paint.Step 1: Sand the lense down with some fine sand paper until you can get all the cracks and crap off the bulb.Step 2: Clean the headlight CaseStep 3: Spray Clear Coat Spray PaintStep 4: ????Step 5: Profit!

I've never used clearcoat on lamps. The main concern being the heat generated. If it is not the proper type it can eventually look like rippled sand lines on the beach. Either that or it will haze faster if it is not cared for properly. Now that they are clear coated, you will want to be sure to NOT use windex on them or other plastic cleaners. Your best bet is a wax or polish since you have essentially painted them.I agree with the start with a harsher wet sanding like a 1000 and work to a 2000. But then I go for the Meguiar's PlastX and give it a few good run overs with the machine. Does wonders for the clarity.

Looks good, just remember since you clearcoated, you should use wax instead of plastic cleaner on the lamps now. Here are results doing what I did for headlight restore. Not my job, but a good how-to.http://meguiarsonline.com/foru...20994
