Want to replace my '05 HU ( single CD, M&T, XM) with an '06-'08 MP3 with M&T (XM not a priority). Spoke with the dealer who contacted Delco. Delco says it won't operate in my car due to incompatibility with the VIN. I didn't think the VIN made any difference on these cars. Yet when they replaced my factory HU they had to program the new one. Can anyone shed some light on this? I'd really like to get the MP3 HU. But if it won't work, there's no point in getting one.One other question: didn't all the MP3 HU's have the M&T too, as part of the upgrade package?
Don't think so. I've got the M&T, but no mp3 stock deck.I don't think they changed the stereos between the 05-06, so I can't see why it wouldn't work. My next question is, why not an aftermarket HU?
Spent a lot of time investigating aftermarket HU's. Even bought one - JVC KW-XG700 DD unit. Very disappointed. Terrible glare from display - couldn't even see it except at night. (Now I know why Pontiac put a non-glare, polarized lens in their radio, although, when I wear my polarized sunglasses, the display completely disappears). No real improvement in sound quality either. And while I chose a unit that, I thought, was relatively easy to set up, it was a pain trying to change settings while driving. Again, another plus for Vibe HU. This is something I've found to be a problem with virtually all aftermarket HU's. The JVC was also supposed to scroll ID3 tag info (setting in the Personal Settings Menu) every 5 seconds. It wouldn't do it. You had to keep hitting Disp button. And for a DD radio, the buttons were small and hard to read. The only thing I really liked was the USB port. it played my flash drive music much better and more quickly than the FM modulator I'm now using. But that feature alone is not worth the cost of the radio. So I returned it. Now you know why I'm trying to upgrade a factory HU. At least the mp3 feature will allow me to put a lot of music on one CD.
