Help on Replacing A/C Compressor

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had experience replacing the A/C compressor & how could you tell if it was bad. My A/C been getting weaker & weaker & recharging it isnt cutting it no more. Im considering replacing the compressor.

First have the system checked to see if there is a leak. Wait with the compressor. It may just need a recharge.

if the compressor is bad.. you would hear the clutch making noise or not ingaging or disingaging.. or a bearing squealing if it's going bad... if you are going to replace the compressor, replace the condensor as well and don't forget the new oilSounds like you got a leaky hose. not a bad compressor. Have them run a die check on the system.If you going to replace the AC components you will have to take it to a shop so the system can be evacuated. then you can replace the parts then take it back to the shop for a refill. Don't just disconnect the system and let the refrigerant escape in to the air.. it's against the law.

if it were me, first I'd check the easy and free possibility of teh temp door not being properly adjusted http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=1315after that, I'd take it somewhere to get the system tested, since I have no AC tools or skills

Yes, I really must replace the AC compressor. It not compressing anymore lol. Anyone have a guide?

Have you had it leak checked?? If not, there is no reasion to change anything... you could easily have a hole in the condensor (usually in front of the radiator or part OF the radiator) And just changing the pump isn't all the story.. there is a line dryer than would most likely need changing as well, then vacuum evacuation.... You are really better of taking it to an expert... It's what I would do, and I try and do as much of the work as I can... some things are just best left to the experts..

Been a long time but heres an update.I switched relays to see if the ac will work with another similar relay & the AC was still dead.Took the ol Vibe to the car shop & removed 4 bolts & the cable & the swapped compressors from the bottom of the car.Screwed everything back in & used a tall can of 134a and now I have a cold vibe again. Thanks everyone

Did you pull a vacuum on the system before filling with 134????

Hopefully no moisture got in there with the refilling.I just had my 04 Montana done and you have to make sure that the system has been vacuumed out and free of anything but the 134.Or it will lead to a major problem.

no vacuum was available . But so far the a/c is still running cold. From my experience I was cheated on 2 vacuums.First time I took it to a proshop & I checked the pressure after it was done & it was still +10 PSI2nd Time my roommate rented a vacuum & the vacuum was making nose & failed to remove anything.
