TRD Cold Air Intake!!!!

Post by redtrdmatrix »

Matrix TRD Cold Air IntakeNow available for the first time from TRD is a Cold Air Intake for the Toyota Matrix. Designed to fit all Matrix models (no 4WD), TRD’s Cold Air Intake offers up to 11 additional horsepower and 9 lb.-ft of torque. The intake features an aluminum tube, powder-coated in candy apple red with a reusable, high-flow conical air filter. The longer, smoother intake tube improves cylinder fill rates which in turn maximizes power potential. The new Cold Air Intake is fully warranted and emissions legal in all 50 states.

This is being discussed at MatrixVibe.net. A Toyota rep is going to bring it up to TRD and get more info, possibly look for a volunteer for testing.

True. It was made very clear that the TRD warranty for this product would not apply to the Vibe.

Yes, but another thing that was brought up today is whether GM SPO may rebrand the TRD CAI for their own use. I doubt they would, but we can always hope.

No problem! I just happened to flip over to that page and there was the post! The job hunt is going, still nothing yet though. I'm still moving when the house sells though.

"Wonder why the CAI would not work for the AWD Vibe? Doesn't the Injen work for the AWD? Chances are the TRD CAI, like all the others, WILL fit the AWD just fine! Likely the issue is that Toyota doesn't WANT it to have more power, since one popular explanation of its 7 HP lower output is that the AWD system can't handle any more...

That's the other explanation I've heard. Would be nice to A: compare underhood appearance to see if there's any apparent reason why a 2WD CAI wouldn't fit the AWD and B: compare the two exhaust systems, say dimensionally and by measuring the back pressure. If the power loss is just the exhaust, a cat back system done right should really help the AWD! Of course, Toyota could have deliberately restricted the exhaust to reduce the power for durability reasons...

I had one on my 03 VGT. Not sure if it will fit your 07 base vibe or not. but definitely NOT on the GT models. The air pump from 04+ years on the 2zz made the piping different.don't know if the 1zz guys had this issue or not, but my 2zz threw a CEL as did most everyone else with the TRD intake. Not until I got the Unichip did it fix it.

TRD cai will not fit the 05 DBW and up models. Toyota never made a intake for the 05+ and up.

AFE SRI worked w/o any CEL... I had to slightly modify it, by using a air breather off the head and plug the inlet on the intake where the air breather normally would go.

don't know. But on NA motors, I would go CAI vs SR. more power and better results.
