I made a very good deal on a new 2008 base model Vibe, when I contacted my insurance agency they quoted a very high rate for this car. This rate was much higher than my wife's Excape which cost a lot more and is driven to work. This rate is non work driven and less than 7500 mile per year...I just don't understand, the deal is on hold.
No reason for the Vibe to have a higher rate than other economy cars with similar prices. Check with the insurance agent to be sure he didn't get the quote wrong - and also check with a few other insurance companies for competitive rates. When we switched from a '97 Camry to an '06 Vibe the rate only went up a little to reflect the higher vehicle value.
Hmmm...I have State Farm too. I might tell your agent to check again. My Vibe is worth a lot more than my Alero was, and I like a said, I'm only paying like $10 more per year. How old are you?
Is it leased/owned/financed thru GM? If leased or financed GM may have different standards than Ford on what the insurance level need be. (Eg, full glass coverage, lower deductible, etc.)Was the escape new or used when you purchased insurance on it?
I know newer cars have slightly higher rates, but the vibe is a safe car so it should be relatively low, I would get it requoted. Ive had to do that a couple times on my ms3.
I had a G6 and went 472 for 6 mo. to 478 when I traded in for the Vibe. However, I had to shop around for the price, and I had to ditch my previous carrier.

We're both in our 60's, no financing, cash deal, exact same coverage except for the "work" thing........Double checked everything.... I guess insurance rates may be up because of all the storms, ect.
time to call allstate... I used to have statefarm for years... 12years to be exact... and i switched to allstate because statefarm is a ripoff... my old car was a 04cavy.... sold it for the 06 vibe it my insurance went up 7bucks.

interesting, other factors i can think of are what color is the vibe and the escort? when i went from sharing a 98 dodge caravan with the family to being the only one on the vibe(i think, i might be secondary) my rates are lower. also, check to see if they missquoted you like the others said. the rates in your area might have also gone up due to frequency of accidents/claims in the area. hope you get it straightened out.
Leased cars often have "gap" insurance that adds a little - covers the "gap" between what the car is worth and the lease obligation amount. With leased cars you often can be "upside down" for the first half of the lease term.Shouldn't be many cars much lower to insure than a small 4 door station wagon. I have Encore - an Allstate subsidiary - $300,000 liability, $500 ded collision, $50 ded comp. and pay about $600 a year for the '03 Vibe, and about the same for an '07 Town & Country minivan. At that I think I am overpaying - am going to shop before next renewal.

I had a 1994 Nissan Altima insured with Allstate for ~$80 per month full coverage. When I shopped for the Vibe, they quoted me ~$120 per month for the same coverage!!! FAIL! I called USAA (family is military) and am paying the same rate as I was on the Altima for better coverage. USAA has it rated (base model) as a station wagon, not SUV.Sometimes it just pays top shop around.

My rate went up $150/6mths when I went from my '99 Saturn coupe to my '07 Vibe. I wasn't overly upset at the time, because it had just been reduced by that much when I turned 25. If most of you guys didn't see a big increase though, I need to check it out.

This is an interesting topic to consider. I'm glad to learn that it's cheaper if classified as a small 4 door station wagon than a SUV. I hate paying $$$ for insurance almost as much as paying for gas! Wouldn't it be cool if we could have discounted car insurance as a group purchase thru GenVibe????I'm paying $433 a year to Selective Insurance. I'm over 40 with a clear driving record. I just pulled out my policy and realized that they coded me as GT but my Vibe is the base model so I need to call them about that.

I was living in San Francisco, and had State Farm for over 15 years, my car insurance DOUBLED, they couldn't even tell me why. No accidents, no tickets, dropped them, and new company got me much lower rates. Was just after the earthquake of '89, must have been because they had lot's of payouts, but they would never admit it, or give an explanation. I'm now in North Carolina, and my rates are like HALF of what they were in Ca!
I read an article in the paper the other day that said, after years of declining, auto insurance is now trending upward across the board. So, it's probably a combination of a newer vehicle and the opportunity for them to move you up to the new rates. They also use your credit score as a factor.

I'd love to get coverage for $433 a year myself. The lowest I could find was $700 a year and I'm over 40 with a clean driving record. The highest I found was $1200 a year.

Mayb e the difference is for the insurance to cover damage to your car, and not the part that is liability for damage you cause to other cars. Hit a 4x4 sign post with the escape and you'll have hundreds of dollars in damage, hit the same sign with a Vibe and you'll have thousands
Progressive insurance is now in Mass. and my son... who lives near Worcester is paying them about $620/year for his 05 Vibe. He's only 24. Might want to look into that a bit.

I get hit with a lot because I'm inside the 128 belt, and right next to Boston, it's also worth mentioning to those who aren't aware, that rates in MA are set by the state, there's no competition. While they've started down the road to actual real competition, it's not there yet, so no matter which insurer I'm with, the rate is within $50 of all the others.Diane

I am only paying 440.00 a year for full coverage. We have a multicar discount, good driver, etc. but the Vibe is only 440.00 a year and wife's Montana which is low mileage driven is only 360.00 per year. We have aigdirect. Great service too, had a number of glass claims (love driving on the tollway) and no problems at all!

I think that Joatmon is correct in that the price can be higher due to the costs of damage to the vehicle. MSN has information provided through StateFarm that shows ratings for different makes and models of cars.http://moneycentral.msn.com/in...NTIACAfter reading some of this, I am going to shop around for sure!
Thanks for the chart.......I think it explains a lot.The "damage" figure is quite large between a Excape and a Vibe.I still want a small car and the Vibe is still the first choice, all thou I gress it will have to be a 09 now.I just need to really shop around, not happy with SF after the New Orleans Kat. deal!!!
I know exactly what you mean. I traded in a 99 VW Passat Turbo for my 04 Vibe. The salesman said your insurance will drop considerably since I was no longer in a "turbo vehicle". I called from the dealership and was told it would go up approx. $100-275 per year. Monthly it was $79(VW), now it is $109 (Vibe w/$1000 deductable). Funny thing is I am 42 yrs old, and am in law enforcement. Figure out that one.

Like I posted earlier, my insurance went up $150/6mths from a '99 Saturn coupe to an '07 Vibe. That's 30% more. I expected a modest increase because of the greater value of the vehicle for comp/coll, but the Vibe is a 4-door and hell of a lot safer than a tiny plastic Saturn (the biggest reason I bought a new car, I started fearing for my life).I just got a renewal notice in the mail, it went up another $30. I figured it was just the usual policy of "lure new customers with a good rate then creep up and they won't notice". Well, I checked around last night and still couldn't find another insurer that was any cheaper. This sucks, my record is clean, I've never had ANY claim and my rates just keep going up.Is anyone else getting rate increases for no reason? Maybe just my area since we have the new damn speed and redlight cams (the insurers never see those tickets)?
