Moral / Vibe Delema

Post by moonstonemike »

OK , I'm having trouble making a decision so i'm asking the vibe community for its advice. I'll try to explain as best I canSo my girlfriend needs summer tires for her vibe because it only came with snows. Her B-day is comming up and when I asked her what she wants she said a GPS (which everyone is chipping in to buy her) or maybe rims and tires. I told her I wanted to upgrade my rims, so if I do she can take my old ones so she wouldnt have to buy a set. So I started looking for rims and found two good deals on used rims and tires. The problem is one set would look good on my vibe the other would be perfect for hers. So do I buy the ones for me and give her my steeles and hubcap rims, which I think is still nice because it saves her from buying a set and tires. Or do I just buy the nice aluminum rims for her b-day which I know she would love. Any advice?

ohhh.. tuff call... Nice thing is she's not expecting new wheels for her ride... So if you got the wheels you wanted, and gave her yours, she would still be happy... Next thing... I'm assuming if you bought new wheels and gave the old ones to her, you'd also take her winters' for you to swap out in the winter right? Is there any plans in the future for her to get aftermarket wheels? If so, it's one of those, instead of buying mine now, I buy hers, then I buy mine later... which would be really nice of you...if she doesn't plan on ever really getting aftermarket wheels, then I'd say you get your wheels and give her the old ones... (but still need to get her something nice for the Bday)

Hmmm, it sounded like she'd be okay getting your old rims, but we all know how girls are... (no offense to the fine young ladies on this forum, of course ) It's probably best to err on the safe side and get a couple bonus points.

I already have a set of snow tires and rims for my car so thats not a problem. I know she would be fine with the steeles but she would love the nicer ones. But like kamakaze said its good cause shes not expexting rims, so I can get away with getting them for myself. Why did I have to find both sets!!!

You get her the wheels and tires and keep what you go. DO NOT give hand-me-downs to your GF for her B-day. That's like regifting a Tiffany's necklace given to you by an old girl. She wants the nice box and ribbon, not some ziploc bag with a chain in it.Trust me on this, spend the cash on her and she will be very appreciative, then come summer you can take some of your cash and get the wheels. And think of it like this, she can't get mad for you wanting wheels down the road cause she knows you wanted them, so it's a give and get situation. You give her new wheels, and she will not have any issues with you getting new ones in a few down the road.

If I gave her the rims I would still get her an actual b-day present, but I see what your saying maybe I should get her the rims then have her buy me ones for christmas of something? Now I'm using my noggin, but I would still need to get rid of my steeles after.

Sell the steels or keep them for winter. Either way you make out. Then go online and pickup a set of new/used wheels from ebay or from here even.

Buy her some new tires. Have them mounted on what she has. Then when you get new wheels, get her snow tires mounted on your steelies.

If you have to buy her wheels just so you can get some... (wheels)something's wrong... My wife pretty much lets me spend whatever I want on my bike... in return... she get's new wakeboard stuff...we're both happy and get what we want.Would she really want rims for a Bday gift?if not... I suggest getting the wheels you want for now, and get her a nice gift that she will like.

I think the important quest is, can you get the rims/tires back from her if you break up. Only if yes would I consider it.

Information is missing here...how long have you two been dating? What are the prospects? Is marriage in the future? If this is a "permanent" thing, then wheels for her are fine. If you aren't sure, then don't do it for her.Bottom line is, how would you feel if the roles were reversed. Would it matter to you if you got the hand me downs? You should know her well enough to know if it matters to her.

Well we've been dating 5 1/2 years. Most likely will be permanent. and its not that I have to get her something so I can buy something, were not married, Like I said I would give her the tires because she needs them but would still get her a gift. I like sloths idea. I guess it comes down to how generous I feel in the next few days.

The main thing is safety. You don't want her wearing out those snow tires and have nothing good one the ground next winter.

I've been with my lady for 5 years, got engaged at 4. Married this July. I am coming from a slightly different perspective cause we are saving for big things like a house, honeymoon, wedding, etc. So for me it's a redundant opinion since wheels are no where near anything I will be buying in the future. Now a John Deere Tractor, that is a different story!

I can't say I've ever known a girl that wanted tires for her birthday. Most of the girls I've dated would be quite p.o. 'd if I even considered it.

Woman weighing in here! Guys ... don't buy your wife/gf household appliances or stuff for the car for Christmas or birthday gifts. You'll make out much better giving jewelry. Earrings, necklace, or bracelet will be preferred by most of us.Worst gifts from men: speakers for the car, emergency/first aid kit, and 12-volt compressor with flashing light.

My wife would brain me if I ever spent big money on jewelry or the like for her. She is big into computer and console gaming, so it's always games/software, or hardware upgrades to make the software run better. Believe me, THAT'S the sort of stuff she likes. She calls it "fun" stuff, so I can see where new wheels and tires could be considered fun stuff for a lady really into her car.And household appliances??? I would definitely be a dead man...

I would say just give up the tires and rims to her now, keep it unrelated to her birthday. tires and wheels are not gift items, they are necessities. Get the rims you want and get whatever you were gonna get for her BD .

Well it goes to show all women are different some like jelewry, some like electronics, some even like appliances. My girlfriend loves baking. Its what she enjoys doing. So for christmas I got her a profesional series kitchen aid mixer and she absolutly loved it because it is something she always wanted but didn't feel right splurging for. So I guess to define the perfect gift it would be something the person wants but doesn't necessarily need.

Maybe I'll buy the rims for myself and tell her my happiness is my gift to her. Then after I pick myself off the floor I can go out and buy her a purse or jelewry.

She does need tires for safety but that is not a b-day item. What does she like, pay attention to that or ask her directly. IMHO People remember experiences far better than gifts so you could take her out to dinner. Dress up and bring a camera or camera phone and get the waiter to take your picture. Maybe invite another couple so it's all about celebrating her with people she loves. If you want extra points bring her a single rose !!

Sorry for the late reply, well she has the rims, but not from me. I gave her some jewlery and took her out for the day, plus threw her a surprise party, which she did love. She later asked me what happened to those rims I was looking at. (I originally told her I was thinking of getting them for myself to see if she liked them) I told her I didn't think they suited my car. So she asked if they were still for sale and bought them. I'll get some pictures up soon as I get a chance.
