2003 Vibe GT Lava"He inched his way up the corridor as if he would rather be yarding his way down it.""For a moment, nothing happened. Then, after a second or so, nothing continued to happen." - Douglas Adams...we all miss you
I've ran Mobil 1 synthetic oil in all of my vehicles ever since I tore into two engines that had Mobil 1 synthetic oil in them. [FYI neither of the tear-downs were oil related; one was a leaking intake gasket and the other one was a leaking cylinder head gasket] Once I had the intake and valve covers off of both of the engines it was apparent that it was a superior oil. Absolutely no sludge was built up on the heads or on the block in the "push-rod" valley where I usually notice a great deal of build up even with 3,000 mi oil change intervals. Just another note, the oil change interval for both vehicles was a regular 5,000 mi. usually never over. I also change the oil filter on my car every 2,500 mi.
I just filled my 1zz-fe with Royal Purple. It was expensive, but I noticed it immediately. More (removed) and throttle response. Next time I'm going to swap out my AT Fluid too. After that, I'm swapping over to Amsoil, mostly because I can get it cheaper than I can get RP, due to a business friend who buys it in bulk for fleet vehicles. I also love that 25,000 mile guarantee they offer. So full synthetics are all my Vibe will ever drink. Now if we could just get that synthetic gasoline thing down, we'd all be set.
keep in mind, MB1 changed their formula. it's not as good as it used to be. I ran RP in my LGT since about 15K miles (maybe less, but I dont' remember). I will either run it again, or something similar if I can find it for less. RP is spendy, but I can tell you that my LGT ran great while using it, and that's with 2 very heavy seasons tracking the car.
is the best oil I have ever tried, I sell that alot and we have a sales seminary about it and they have tested against another brands and nobody beat Royal purple. Trust me is the best.

amsoil and RP are only group IV oil, if you want crazy group V synthetic you'll need to get Redline. From what someone in the oil testing field told me group 3 aka mobile 1 etc. those are just finely refined crude oil. castrol started that and mobil 1 followed. the only contender in group 3 thats worth purchasing is Penzoil Platinum.
I ran mobil 1 in my Vibe... for a 130HP N/A engine it does just fine. Even with the formula change. I believe the only time serious consideration to oil formula needs to be considered is with higher HP engines. For example people with 300 or more HP seem to be running into issues using mobil 1 and royal purple 5w30. I'm running 5w40 valvoline full synthetic. When the wife gets about 9000 miles, I'll switch her to the same stuff. But for the Vibe. RP... mobil, castrol... its all good.

I was running the RP in my 03 and loved the feel after every oil change. It was like instant power boost. The wife's 04 I've been running with a blend and can notice a little difference. Only problem is the price you have to pay for it.
I can get a case for $63.00 5w30 or 10w40 Royal purple high perf oil NOT racing.

Two things:I never take the recommendation and feedback of anyone who stands to gain by their recommendation. (ie, an RP salesman saying it's the best they've ever tried - no offense elcapix). Also, you have to be careful with RP. Only some of their oils meet the standards. Some of their high performance motor oils meet "their own" standards.

I just switched to Royal Purple. (litterly not 30 minutes ago.) So we will have to wait and see if there are any noted differences. One thing I didn't realize as I started to pour it in is that it is actually PURPLE.There are 2 forms of mobil 1 the regular and the extended life. I had been usuing the reg Mobil 1. and the Royal Purple was about a $1 more than the reg. Mobil 1. the Extended Life Mobil 1 was the same price as the Royal Purple. When I get to the ATF change time I'll use the Royal Purple Synthetic ATF (Only Synth. I could find in stores that is rated for Toyota Type IV)
