egg advice

Post by 21Rouge »

Starting sometime last summer and weekly into the fall our front entrance and garage doors were egged. It would occur in the evening mostly on Friday or Saturday but occassionally on Thursday....between 9:00 pm and 11:00 pm. Even our 2005 Neptune Blue Vibe was sometimes on the receiving end of this mess. After a reprieve over the winter it started again last night between 10:00 pm and 10:30 pm. When it first began last year 2 other homes also were targetted (one about 6 doors down; the other one street over but still close to ours). But by the end of the summer only ours got it regularly. I am so angry as the mess is near impossible to clean up perfectly. (Yesterday the eggs hit the screen door ). I am so frustrated as I see no easy way to catch the culprit(s).I am open to your advice. Fire away !

A video Camera will catch them in the act and a power washer to clean the mess.

what you need is a computer, a digital camera, and a cable to connect the digital camera to the computer.

Have you contacted the police? They might have some advice for you on the best way to proceed as well. If it's happened that many times I would think they would be interested.

if you have it, you could use an old VHS camcorder too, that way you don't have to buy a new expensive one. either way, get a camera and put it on a tripod in a bush with sight to road. then at about 9 or 9.30 go outside and hit the record button. i'd test the location out during the day and night to make sure you can get the framing right to try and capture either faces or a plate number. this sucks. i've had my car get hit with eggs before when i was hanging out at a friends once. i hope you get this resolved.

Yeah, you don't want to do vigilante justice like a rich lawyer did here. Some private school kids in an Explorer was (allegedly) doing some egging, the lawyer, no stranger to scandal, was (allegedly) legally drunk, got in his BMW and chased them down, (allegedly) rammed his BMW into the Explorer and it ended up against a guide wire connected to a telephone pole. If you can form a neighborhood watch, with residents patrolling, inform the police that this is happening and they can take care of them. And yes, video tape to get the make model and plates for evidence.

Next the BB gun alliance will show up saying don't use a BB gun cause if gives them a bad name.I'm sorry, if you are destroying my property and I catch you in the act, ya better hope the only gun I can get my hands on and point your way is a paint gun and not the loaded XD 40.

you can get camera's with motion detection wired (wireless) to a DVR, yeah you'll get traffic, but you'll also have video evidence to give to the police.the problem with shooting them with a BB or paintball gun is that you'll be taking the law into your own hands and can be charged with assualt or reckless endangerment. tread lightly if you persue this course of action.if you have a crime stoppers in your location, they could offer a reward and the way the economy is headed, cash talks.

my co-worker was getting hit pretty hard with eggs about once a week or so (along with smashing some of their lawn ornaments and doing toilet paper and tearing up phone books).....after the 3rd time....we ended up changing out his patio light and also added a light to his front yard that was set off by motion detection. The lights ended up being a huge deterrant to the individuals. He did pick up a few economical motion sensor kits that had a remote alarm he placed in his bedroom at night also to catch kids sneaking around in his bushes also. He hasn't had anyone bug him since....granted that is unfortunately a sad way to live but it beats his first solution......(this of course was suggested out of frustration and anger) of hiding in the bushes and catching the #$*%'s that did the damage and making sure they never did it again. Granted yes....he wanted to personally do something about it...but in the day and age of lawyers....he'd have been in a LOT of trouble. Call the cops (keep calling them)...they'll step up their patrol. It's frustrating to have damage to your vehicle, but if you do take matters into your own hands....you may not be able to drive it for a while (or afford to)Steve

I had spoken to the homeowners who previously had been egged last summer on the same nights as I and their kids had strong suspicions who was responsible *last* year. Anyways they were going to mention this incident to him...just in case. I replaced a burned out bulb in our centre lamp post hoping more light would help the situation.Dont think Ill escalate unless there is another 'attack'.
