park to reverse clunk=

Post by jamesmetairie »

2003 base model with automatic. about 85,000 miles. when start the motor cold and if don,t wait all the way till it gets hot ,when shifting from park to reverse or park to drive getting a unnatural clunk sound . feels like when a car has bad motor mounts for example.

are you parked on a slight incline? i am and if a family member borrows my car and doesn't put the parking brake on, when i go to back out of the driveway there is a "chunk" sound and it is hard to shift into reverse.
None. Vibe is gone.

thanks for the reply. i think you,re referring to the condition called ="torque lock". no, this ain,t torque lock. This is probly because the motor is cold and the automatic choke is kicked in so the rpm,s are running higher then usual . it,s gotta be bad for a car to clunk into gear everytime you go to drive it without the car being fully warmed up.

I'll ask the obvious - have you checked the motor mounts? That's what I would do...Also, check the transmission fluid level - any issue there?
